Having been on 11 cruises, I found this one most disappointing. I for sure would not go on a cruise with the same ports of call. I may go on the Horizon again if it was going to places I wanted to see.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very quick and efficent
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Our wait staff did not have sufficient time to get our meals to us at a reasonable time even with pre-ordering our meals the night before. They really tried, but just didn't have the time to properly serve our large table. The extra cost lobster was mouthwatering, unfortunately, when order from the nightly menu not as good.
Liquid Lounge
1 out of 5
Not enough good seating. Sound system way to loud.
Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse Brewhouse
4 out of 5
Nice to be able to eat there for lunch without extra charge.
Ocean Plaza
5 out of 5
This is where I spent most of my cruise. Loved entertainment here
Reflection Restaurant
4 out of 5
Food preparation and selection was pretty good. It took too long to get food and it was usually cool by the time it got to the table.
Lido Marketplace
3 out of 5
Buffet was mundane. Deli and Omelets where great.
Guy's Burger Joint
4 out of 5
Pretty good burgers.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Really did not find any activities that I wanted to do. I was looking forward to using the swimming pool, but I did not want to share it with a bunch of kids. I could not find any "adult only" pools available to me.
Was looking forward to Sky Cycle, but it was not working.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Really enjoyed Pier Pressure. I found the troupe in the Liquid Lounge unremarkable and the sound system was so overly loud I had to wear ear plugs. The guy that MC'd most of the events (I forget his name) was just way to over the top and was mostly annoying.
The Murder Mystery game was .... dumb.
Carnival Multiplex
4 out of 5
Loved it, but would have liked to see more showings of the documentaries and a bigger variety of movies.
Carnival Seaside Theater
4 out of 5
Fun to watch an outdoor movie.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All service staff was excellent. Always friendly and helpful.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Having sailed on several Carnival ships, I was not impress with the Horizon. I was really disappointed that there where parts of the ship I could not go to, Havana Pool and Spa and Family Harbor, because I didn't pay extra for the cabin in that area.
The floor in the Market Place always seemed slippery.
Definitely not enough restrooms in common area; 3 ladies toilets on the Lido Deck, come on!
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Even with 3 adults, the cabin was comfortable and room steward was wonderful.
Ship tip
Check all to ammenities before booking to make sure they fit your expetations.
Top 10 Tour was not so go, Only the Casa de Campo was the only thing on the tour worth getting off the ship and then there wasn't enough time to explore it completely.
If you only walked around the shopping areas you missed out on a whole lot. In Curaçao the beaches are beautiful and once you cross the “floating bridge” there are many things to see. In Aruba the beaches are great , there are many tours that take you to the light house , beach etc. Next time maybe try exploring the island instead of just walking around the shopping areas.
You mentioned that you would not go to these ports again, however it doesn’t appear you did anything other than walk around in three of the four ports. Maybe doing an excursion and or getting out to see what the island has to offer would give you a different opinion.
Do not blame the ship or the cruise line for the ports you picked them. Do some research before you book a cruise on the ports. I have been on two so far with more coming. I want to go to as many different places as possible. The cruise is what you make i. I purposely got the Havana Cabana so I would have a less crowded pool and hot tub. After I booked it I found out the open the pool for everyone at certain times. I also researched and got a cabin where only one cabin to our left so there will not be a lot of people passing our balcony. I think you should do more research before hand or just not go it you can’t have a good time
