No passport needed but they do ask you to take a picture ID such as driver license with you when you get off at any of the ports. I have never been asked to show it.

But if you have a medical emergency or miss the ship you will need an emergency passport for the embassy.

If your leaving from the US and returning to the US you do not need a passport. If you miss the ship at one of the ports you will need to get an emergency passport to leave the island
