One day out and I miss it already! I’ve returned to work and I want to go back. We experience two rainy days at sea during our 7 day cruise but a rainy day (liquid sunshine) at sea is better than a good day at work in my opinion. My 10 year old daughter was sad to leave the pool, water sliding and Camp Ocean. The food was mediocre but I can deal with that!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and smooth once the line started moving. I was a bit nervous due to it being carnival season in New Orleans but in hindsight, there was nothing to worry about.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food in the MDR and buffet was mediocre but the Deli and Bonsai Sushi stations were always great! I also liked the Blue Iguana Cantina. Guy’s is always good. The JavaBlue cafe had me hooked!
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
There was always something to do but I was barely interested in any of the activities. I really noticed this on one particularly rainy day at sea. I was content with finding a seat from which to ‘people watch’
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The cruise director (Cam?) did a great job at getting the party started and keeping it going. The musicians were good! I wish I could’ve sat and watched but we were always running to and fro. The participants of one of the deck parties, however, didn’t seem to care there were children around as they ‘twerked’ mere feet away from pre teen children.
Children's Programs
5 out of 5
My daughter, surprisingly, absolutely loved Camp Ocean! One small hiccup occurred when we checked our daughter out for the night but, according to the Carnival Hub app, she was still checked in (if a child stays checked in past 10:00 pm, there’s a ‘Night Owl’ fee. She went every night.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff were very polite and kind.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship is getting old and the decor is gaudy but I’ve never considered the ship itself to be my destination. The sliding balcony door in my room wouldn’t lock securely but that didn’t bother me.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The initial cleanliness of the room wasn’t to my wife’s standards. It was also small but I knew that going in. The sliding balcony door wouldn’t lock securely but that didn’t bother me. The room was tended to once a day and she did a good job :) The air conditioning worked well and kept us cozy.
Ship tip
Take advantage of the Carnival Hub app. It will have everything you’ll need to know. It’s actually a necessity in the Main Dining Room for the menu!
Always my favorite place to visit! Chakanaab didn’t disappoint and the snorkeling was great. The food was expensive and we felt continually approached for a sale.
If you go to Chakanaab by taxi, you’ll stop on the side of the road to buy your ticket before you actually get to the park itself.
I live here so I’m used to it. I didn’t like returning to the muddy Mississippi from the crystal neon blue waters of Cozumel. I didn’t like the dark, cold windy weather as we got off the ship. Mexico was warm and bright! I didn’t like seeing the gray buildings and hearing the hustle and bustle of traffic and trains as we docked early in the morning.
Most people seem to not like tender boat rides but I do. We sat in the cool shade with a nice breeze on our way back to the ship. Getting food and the little outside places was a fun experience. The fruit tasted amazing! Otherwise, some of the prices in the interior stores were outrageous. $65.00 for a sweat shirt! It was of decent quality but wow!
It rained and the beach was crowded. But it was crowded with nice people! The water itself seemed lifeless compared to the water in Cozumel that was teaming with exotic fish and crabs!
Glad you enjoyed and shared a well rounded review. As to why somebody would be disembarked in handcuffs all cruise lines must share the passenger manifest with Homeland Security so if there is anything from owing back child support to a felony warrant on a name that person can be arrested. Also if there was an infraction or accusation that occurred on board, ship's security can choose to turn the matter over to the local at any port.
So glad you enjoyed . Cruising is the best vacation ever! Love Love Love it. Haven’t cruised since Nov 2019, right before COVID and miss it so much. Wish we started earlier as now we both have medical issues and don’t know if we’ll be able to go again.
