How do you NOT enjoy a cruise to the Caribbean? It was great! Haven't sailed Carnival since the pandemic and while some things on the ship have disappeared most things are good as ever.

Review summary

The ship is beautiful but starting to show her age. Cut backs in many areas since Covid restrictions were lifted may leave some disappointed but make no mistake, this is a wonderful, quality experience. We booked this because of the 5 hour slow trip down the Mississippi River from New Orleans which, for us, is always rewarding watching this magnificent river flow by at sunset. Be aware: summers are HOT and HUMID in the tropics be prepared for the heat. Carnival is sometimes considered the Walmart of cruising but don't let that put you off. This ship offers, with a few exceptions, everything the average cruiser desires without having to mortgage the house to get it as you do on some cruise lines. If you're on the fence about this one ....TAKE IT!...especially if you can find it at good discounted price, you won't be sorry you did.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the dining room was excellent, not so much in the buffet where the quality and flavor of the entrees have gone down noticeably but the deserts were numerous and awesome as usual.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
All were delightful

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great range of talented performers aboard

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
These people are the absolute best. 5 stars isn't enough to rate them. To a person, they were friendly, knowledgeable and professional.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
These ships sat for months unattended during Covid and it shows. It's going to need a complete facelift soon if it's going to stay competitive in the cruise industry but overall, it was clean and fairly well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was comfortable, bright and clean. Room stewards only come once a day now but it was enough for us.

Ship tip

The scenic trip down the Mississippi River heading out is why we booked this one. It never disappoints. Eat in the dining room and stay out of the buffet except for breakfast. This is a fine ship and offers the traveler a lot of options to enjoy, try them all...if you can find the time.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

4 out of 5

Belize City, Belize

4 out of 5
You have to tender back and forth which can be hair-raising in bad weather. Stay out of the city, it's a typical 3rd world dump with aggressive vendors. Book some kind shore excursion.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Been here numerous times, always great shopping but you have to aggressively haggle the prices. It never disappoints.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth and painless.
