Excellent trip overall. Sailing out of NOLA was definitely enjoyable. The ports were all good... Not that many kids onboard which was great for us older folks. We weren't expecting a lot on an older ship but we thoroughly enjoyed the whole cruise. Well done Carnival!!!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very smooth embarkation. We had the 12:30 checked in which was fine, avoiding the initial mad rush to get onboard. We used the Carnival Parking Lot ($20/day)...super convenient but by the time we got there, there were hardly any parking spot left on the roof deck. VeriFly app worked great... No need to show any paper document other than boarding pass and passport.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food quality was as expected... Wished they have more dining options but we knew she was an older ship so the lack of option wasn't a big deal to us. We had dinner in the MDR every night and the food was good and we always found what we would like to try. We usually went with our time dining but we have heard there were staff shortage and long wait time on various forum so we have decided to choose the early dining. It was great to have the wait staff, same table every night. Definitely the right decision.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We didn't do much of the onboard activities... The Glory is old so it doesn't has all the bells and whistles like the newer ship and that reflected the less activities available. However, the Serenity Area is pretty good to hang out during sea days and there were plenty of hot tubs to enjoy.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The shows are pretty good. We actually liked the old school theatre (more spaceous) except the restricted view. The shows are not completely full. The punchline comedy club and piano bar are actually much larger than the Vista and Excel class ship, which is welcoming. We really enjoyed the comedy every night. Marky Mark is an excellent host and get the audience warmed up nicely. Cool dude!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Top class staff as you would have expected. Wait staff in the MDR were first class and they got to know us very well. So was our room attendant...I wish we can have more interaction with him but with only one service per day, it was not possible. Overall, we didn't feel the shortage of staff most people were mentioning in recent review.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship is as clean as it can be but it is showing its age, which is expected.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Standard Ocean view stateroom ok Deck 2. We did miss our balcony but we got a good deal on the ocean view so we can't complain. You actually get more living space but we missed the ability to dry our wet clothes in the balcony. It's always clean.
Ship tip
It's an older ship with old amenities so managed your expectation. The sailing on out of New Orleans is pretty unique... Spending hours on the Mississippi River before it hits the Gulf of Mexico... It's worth going to the front of the ship (deck 6/7) and enjoy the great view.
We love Cozumel....did the all in all inclusive day pass in Paradise Beach, as opposed to Mr. Sancho. Both were $60 per person but we wanted something a little relaxing and less party atmosphere... And it was a great choice. Super easy to catch a taxi from port ($15 each way for up to 3 people). Lovely food, great pool. The beach was not too clear and had quite a bit of seaweed. Great day out.
Not much at the port area so need to venture out for fun. We did the Dr Cave's Beach, and Jerk Chicken/Pork at the Pork Pit. Traffic was terrible so we were glad we didn't travel far. If you want to go far (e.g. Dunn's River Fall), make sure you join the Cruise Line organized tour so they will wait.
So happy to be able to visit the Grand Cayman again. We did the Stingray City excursion with a third party company and had an excellent time. There are always so much to do in Grand Cayman. Remember to get an early water shuttle pass if you need to get off early. They start giving out passes at 6am but by 5:45am, people were lining up already.
Super cool area to visit before/after the cruise. The port is nicely located close to all the touristy areas. We did a guided walking tour in the French Quarter before we boarded.
Very smooth again. We got zone 7 tag and were off the ship before 9am. The facial recognition is fantastic... No need to show the passport. There was a short wait for the elevator back to the roof deck but we managed to get in and out of the parking lot very quickly.
I was on this cruise and was mostly happy…..neighbor down the hall died of heart attack and had to be taken off in Jamaica….tragic. I had to perform Heimlich on a lady in dining room. Other than that and the three waterspouts over the lido it was fun and uneventful lol. Nice cruise.
