Review summary

We really enjoyed this cruise. I think people tended to overreact when it comes to their reviews of the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
One of the fastest embarkation experiences I have ever had. We did not have faster to the fun, and our arrival window was set for 11:30-12:00. We were bored just sitting around, so we arrived at the terminal at 10:30-10:45. We were not told to wait anywhere, and were let directly in to waiting. We were on the ship before 11:15.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Coming aboard, I worried that the food would not be good, based what I had read on boards. I believe that people tended to exaggerate their feelings about the food aboard, as our food was great. We tend to only eat in the MDR anyways for all meals, so we had no bad experiences when it came to food.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainment was great! I think the ship seemed to be understaffed in the entertainment department, so there were many periods of time in which no activities were really going on. Otherwise, very good!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Very attentive staff; though they seemed to be overwhelmed. For example, we only had 1 of the three waiters in the dining room, and she seemed very overwhelmed.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean. The ship was built in 2003, so you have to a little more relaxed when it came to some areas; but it was great overall!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very good cabin. I worried that since we were near elevators that it would be loud, but it was not an issue at night. During the day, however, it was very loud with screaming teenagers, etc. Room was very clean and had plenty of space for the three of us.

Ship tip

If you use a CPAP machine, like my father did, bring a power strip and extension cord, as there is only 1 outlet in the cabin. We also brought magnetic hooks to have the cord moving across the ceiling. Also be sure to pre-order distilled water, which is only around $3 for a gallon.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Always great; went to Chankanaab for snorkeling, and ate at Poncho’s by the ship.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

4 out of 5
Originally booked Jolly Roger catamaran, but it was so rocky that we cancelled and got a refund. We just went around the port and the beach via the chair lift.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Booked at Ibiza Sunset beach club. Had some of the nicest staff. It began to rain, however, so we went back to the ship after an hour.

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
Stayed at the W in the French Quarter. It was great, and was in walking distance of almost everything.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast; we were in zone 20 and we were off the ship at 9:00am.

Folks forget that the cooks are cooking for around 4,000 people and not their personal chef. Can’t season food to everyone’s liking. I like runny grits and some like hard grits same as I like mild Bloody Mary’s and my brother likes his spicy but we both enjoy the cruise.

Some of us are a little more tolerant, easy going or just more positive about our experiences so we tend to enjoy more without so much criticizing! Continue to enjoy yourself on your cruise vacation s!
