Review summary

Was solo sailing, as i usually do. thought the ship looked fine. a clone of the 1st ship i cruised on [valor], so knew where things were. food in the dining room for dinner was pretty good but not great. wait staff & cabin steward were tremendous. fitness centre has great equipment, but music way too loud. very good entertainment in lobby. cloudy most of every day on the cruise, and stormed afternoon of last day.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
do the morning b'fast in platinum. buffets had healthy options, which was nice. guys burgers are really good, esp when you don't have a line, like on port days. choices at deli are limited but tasty. the chef's table is extraordinary!!! watch for "tea time" if you're a fan.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
sports trivia was HARD but that's the way it should be: challenging!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
very good entertainment in the lobby. went to comedian john caponera show - okay.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
nair was my cabin steward and was ALWAYS around!! this is not always true, as many of you know. he was superb! wait staff in golden dining room [joel, prince, manino] were also excellent. lauren ran the sports trivia & was hysterical!

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

i will look for this cabin in the future! check out deck plans to see why: no neighbours. nice & quiet. easy access to "secret" viewing deck. straight up to spa/fitness centre.

Ship tip

eat at the popular guy's burger when ship's in port - no lines. don't eat there on sea days - lines are insane. book a dining time, and do go! it's nice to sit and chat w/o the hubbub of the buffets. same for b'fast in platinum. there were lines every night for the "dine anytime" people.

Ports of call

George Town, Grand Cayman

read your tour selection carefully. the "deep stingray city" is NOT the tour where you wade out to hold stingrays - some were disappointed to find that out. the title IS misleading but i like snorkeling so i liked it.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
a nice free [for cruisers] beach within walking distance [can see it from ship], free chairs [awnings cost].

Belize City, Belize

ugh. even cruise director said if you don't book a tour [which i didn't] there's NOTHING to do on your own. a LONG tender ride to pier. usual shops. can't really walk to town. waste of time for me. those who booked tours said bus rides were long, uncomfortable. and felt rushed when at destinations.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
nachi cocom is very nice, not crowded, and quiet [no piped-in music]. maybe 40 people there. not for the "party crowd". all you can drink [very good bloody maria's!]. NOT all you can eat but get to pick 4 items from menu, which was plenty. GREAT massage, and MUCH less $$$ than on ship - 70 min deep tissue for $70!!! be aware: they open at 9 am local time, which is 10 am ship time out of miami! cuts down on time there.

jennyb1265: in your circumstance, i would think it would be a vacation itself just to do whatever you want on the cruise, whenever you want! and being outgoing is a definite plus: you'll meet nice people

I have considered cruising alone. I actually love traveling alone! I am pretty outgoing and married w kids. Sometimes they have different schedules and can't travel.

sorry it came out wrong. no offence taken! and thanks, it was a good time.

i meant no offense. i was just curious. i think it's great and I'm so glad you had a good time.

iluvdux5: the friends i often cruise with were taking the vista and because it's brand-new it was out of my price range. i'm not married, never have been, and ENJOY travelling alone! i'm friendly and have no problems meeting people [met a nice couple my age and we did a couple things together]. i guess my question back to you is: why not, if that's what i choose to do?

why do you cruise solo?
