Review summary

The Eastern Caribbean cruise was a nice cruise. The food and service was great. We especially liked the stop at Half Moon Cay. The beach and water was the prettiest we have ever seen. The other ports were nice also but our favorite would be Half Moon Cay. What we did not like was Carnival adding $12 per day per person for tips. If this was not bad enough they charge a tip for each drink you have on the boat and their drinks are not cheap. I don't know why Carnival can't charge one price for a cruise and that would include everything (like an all inclusive).

The cabin was a little outdated and not arranged the best. But our porter was great. He kept the room clean and we ask for a bucket of ice the first day we were on and he made sure we had a fresh bucket of ice morning and night.

Ship tip

Do go up and eat the fish and chips. Very good. Only one electrical plug in room.

Colby, yes the cruise line does pay the waiters, housekeeping staff etc., it's just not a lot. The tips, that you pay, are just a BIG addition to their pay.

When I go to outback or Olive Garden for example... I know that waiters make a couple bucks an hour salary their main income is based on the tips people leave them. I have been cruising with carnival for 15 years and they use to leave it up to us to do the right thing and tip like we should. Well geez people didn't get it often not leaving a dime. Those people bust their ass REALLY?

The cruise lines ALL charge a per person, per day gratuity.  Carnival's rate of $12 is the lowest.  RCL and NCL have a  $13 or $14 daily gratuity charge.  It's the same with the drinks, they all charge a tip for each drink unless you purchase a drink package.  The tip is usually included in the price of the package.

That's how your waiters, housekeeping, and others get paid is by tips. Carnival doesn't pay them a salary.

Just for future reference..all cruise lines have the extra gratuities fee. You can pay in advance. It is an option when you book.
