Review summary

The ship is beautiful and very, very clean. Our room had a balcony and was a nice size room for a cruise ship. We had room 7448 which is the back the ship on the Empress Deck. Loved watching sunsets each evening. We went on this ship with 2 other couples, and chose it because we wanted to leave out of NY.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The presentation was always beautiful, but the food is pretty average in taste. Buffets always had long lines. Had breakfast and dinner in dining room... saved the buffets for lunch. The ship could use more help on the grill stations.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Entertainment staff works very, very hard, and does a fine job. Loved the dancing, and loved the illusiions act.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
If you're doing a shoulder, neck, back massage (half body) ask for Rosie...she was fantastic. The dining room staff in the Platinum room couldn't be nicer. I felt the Gold Dining room (where we were the 1st nite) clearly handled the overflow or the 'dine with no set time' people. If you have a set time, and a set table, the staff gets to know your likes and dislikes, and really tries to please you. We asked for ketchup the 1st dinner, and it was in place each nite after that. Our biggest complaint was the GYM. Out of 7 Elliptical machines; 4 were out of order. The staff were more interested in their laptops searching their facebook accounts then in attending to and assisting people using the equipment. People were on treadmills in flip flops, and staff didn't seem the least bit interested.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our room was a great size for a cruise. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. TV was crystal clear, and everything was in working order.

Ports of call

Halifax, Nova Scotia

We didn't book an excursion for this since St. John was such a disappointment. We walked to the pier (about a 10 minute walk), and throughly enjoyed the day. A 'hopper' - land sea bus tour was half the price of the excursion, and was delightful. They are doing a lot of work making Halifax even better, so in a year or two, I'd like to go back again. Don't miss this stop. It's enjoyable, relaxing and a really nice way to spend a day.
Don't Miss: Walking along the pier. Cow's ice cream (mooey gooey), and the 'hopper tour'.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Don't even get off the ship. Not much to see and couldn't wait to return to the ship. If you skip St. John and stay on board, you won't have the lines at the buffet and will have a quiet afternoon on board the ship.

Pros: Leaving out of NY and Our Balcony

Cons: St. John, and the long lines at the buffets
