If you have the time, it is so much easier with a Passport.

I have both so I just take both of them. If something happened to you it makes it so much easier having your passport to fly back home.

License and Birth Certificate or just a passport
Answered by TNTGreen on December 13, 2022
you can not sail with just your drivers license. You will need a copy of your birth certificate with the raised seal! They will not except just a copy without the seal. It's always better to have a passport.

I cruise on this very same ship in 2015 and 2 weeks prior to my cruise I realized passport expired! I did a rush passport but still did not receive it in time. I called and was told to bring a copy of my. irth certificate, marriage certificate (different last name than on my birth certificate) and my driver's license. They put everything in their computer system at check in then it all stayed in my safe until the cruise was over. I only needed my ship card for anything and getting on and off ship as they had already put the info in their system.

All depends on where the cruise is going. US citizens on a closed loop cruise to WHTI compliant ports only need name matched proof of citizenship (like a Dept of Vital Statistics issued Birth certificate) and a government issued photo ID. If the names on those 2 documents don't match, copies of all name change papers must be on hand to show link.

birth certificate and driver's license is acceptable in place of passport. however, now with the facial recognition software the passport makes it so much faster
