Review summary

This was our first cruise and we didn't know what to expect.  Therefore, we had no preconceived notions.  The porters were excellent and the wait staff in the Posh and the Chic were fabulous.  Malcolm was fun and funny.  He was everywhere helping in whatever capacity in which help was needed.  There was a little difficulty with debarkation such as long wait and some confusion about where to wait for our deck to be called.  But, hey, with that many people, it seemed to be par for the course (although it seemed that some other "seasoned" passengers were not happy).  The ship was always clean and having housekeeping come twice a day was totally surprising!

One of us uses a CPAP machine and there were no plugs next to the bed. In fact, the entire cabin only had one place to plug into.  None in the bathroom, either.  So, we had to string the cord across the bed and on the floor.  It barely reached and was a fall hazard when we got up at night to the bathroom.

The food was always good, no matter where we ate. The mixed drinks were very well done.

We thought we had booked two of our excursions through Carnival.  We did not realize that we were being directed to when we clicked on a link to book them.  After we arrived on the ship, we realized that there were Carnival excursions.  That is the way to go because one of our excursions did not turn out the way we were hoping.  We went to San Pueblo in Belize via small airplanes through Ecological Tours (that may not be the correct name). The people that took us by plane and by car to and from the airport were very good....but we were dropped off and didn't know what to do.  We didn't know how to go see the birds, etc., that we thought we were going to see...so we just walked around the streets to see how the people live, had lunch and then left.

One place that we did book through Carnival was at Roatan island.  An hour of our time was spent in driving there and back.  It was a nice resort (Princess Myan, I believe), but we were constantly harassed by vendors....the worst ones were the massage ladies.  They would not take no for an answer, even massaging my shoulders even after I asked them to stop.  They even followed me into the ocean.

But, overall what we experienced on the ship was a positive experience.  Love Carnival's Freedom.

I've been to Roatan a few times and never had that experience and in fact Mahogany Bay Roatan is my favorite island. No hawking or pushy salesmen. We're going twice in the future -- once in December on Magic and again on a back-to-back in February also on Magic.
