Review summary

Our Carnival experience was less customer-friendly than Celebrity, Princess, and Cunard. Service personnel tried to provide assistance, and did a fine job of that, but the cruise didn't measure up to other experiences we have had. We did, however, enjoy the face that we stopped at FIVE islands in a week. Awesome!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy and organized. Great customer service and smooth sailing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffets were repetitive. The food was plentiful but we've had lots better on other cruise lines. The dining room was better, and we appreciated the service we received there.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
The only on-board activity in which I participated was a "hair show". It was not well attended (only two passengers showed up), and it was nothing more than an opportunity to sell products. I was totally unimpressed. The line at the Guest Services desk was always long, and we waited a minimum of 20 minutes (but usually closer to 30-45) each time we needed to seek their assistance.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The comedians and the juggler were NOT entertaining. Their humor was mediocre at best.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our cabin Steward, Darmana, was exceptional. He responded to our requests quickly, and never had to be asked more than once to fill a need. He was definitely one of the high points of our cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean and well-maintained. The buffet service personnel made sure to clean tables regularly. We used the public restrooms and they were always clean. The only concern was that the shops were really small. Perhaps on a larger ship would have a larger common area, but this one felt small and crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was comfortable with plenty of space and storage.

Ship tip

Need more people at the Guest Services at the desk. The wait was far too long.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
We only checked in to our ship at this port. All went smoothly there.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
No excursion. Everyone in town was extraordinarily helpful.

Bridgetown, Barbados

2 out of 5
No excursion. Downtown was a Scary place. Lots of people "just hanging" around entrances to places of business, making it uncomfortable to attempt to enter them.

Castries, St. Lucia

3 out of 5
No excursion. Port was pretty small.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
No excursion. Our favorite port.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
No excursion. Enjoyed this port.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Too much waiting around.

Well, anytime you get to be on a cruise is better than being at work, right?

Well, anytime I'm on the water is a win win..

It’s one of the older ships in the fleet, and the fascination isn’t exactly in the same stratosphere price wise as the QM2 or queen victoria!

It's the smallest and oldest of the carnival ships and shouldn't be used to judge the entire carnival fleet.

From what I’ve been reading, it’s all about the itinerary.
