We were located next to an engine that came on every morning at 6:30 AM when ship docked. It was so loud we couldn't even hear each other talk! I didn't expect to get up every morning at 6:30 AM on my vacation!

Ship tip

Don't stay anywhere near the engine room like in room M2 floor 5on the fascination.

We could hear the motors winding the mooring (docking) ropes (we were in the aft port cabin). Sounds funny but every time we heard the motors whine, I just wanted to go watch the operation. To us, it's just part of the realization that we had arrived and the crew was going about the business of docking the ship. It's the little boy in me...

I've had this experience on many ships when bargain hunting last minute deals. It's the thrusters they use to dock the ship. On the flip side you always know when the ship has arrived! "Wake up! We're here!"

Take it as a lesson learned how important it is in selecting your cabin. I prefer the lower floors mid ship. I would never accept a "Guranteed Cabin" either.

Too bad about the cabin. We tend to not spend much time in ours - but if you can't sleep because of the noise - well, that's bad. And too bad about the food. An important aspect of any cruise.
