Old ship with mediocre food and bartenders and wait staff that could care less that you're there. Only positive is the number of ports you get to stop at.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Menu items like steak and lobster that used to be included with the cruise fare now a $20 up charge each evening which is an additional $240 per couple for the week if you added one of those items each night. The waitstaff were abysmal and rude. Until the last night of course when they all played nice for tips. The items on the regular menu in the main dining room were akin to eating out at a Friday's or O'Charley's. The buffets weren't that spectacular either.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Not a lot to do.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The comedians were hilarious. Everything else was blah. The smoking in the open bar next to the casino should be banned. The smoke wafted around the corner. There shouldn't be smoking anywhere inside.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Save for the bartenders in the main atrium bar and our room steward the rest of the staff we encountered were apathetic and unfriendly. They could have cared less that they had customers.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
You could smell raw sewage at different times. Showers were hard to operate in the "suites" and being an older ship it's really cut up which makes getting from one end to the other like a maze.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
We had one of the largest cabins on the boat next to the owner's suite. It had an "extended" balcony. Shower was difficult to operate and the "jacuzzi tub" was a joke. It's a combination unit with the shower and I can't imagine anyone over 5 foot tall trying to use it. They should have just gone with walk in showers as it's a struggle to try and get in and out. The extra space was nice.
Ship tip
Don't purchase the beverage package unless you're a heavy drinker that only drinks super premium alcohol. You have to average at least 5 super premium drinks a day per person to just break even.
Book a private charter power boat with captain to take you around to the other islands. Well worth the money. Cost the six of us $600 from 8:30 am to 3pm with $150 for the captain and $185 in fuel to get to St. John, Jost Van Dyke, snorkel the caves at Norman Island and drink at the Willy then head back to St. Thomas.
Hired a private driver for $60 an hour to take us to St. Nicholas Abbey rum tour then to Cin Cin for an amazing upscale lunch overlooking the water. Ended the day at Carlisle Beach.
Been here several times. The people here are always extremely rude and could care less about customer service. DO NOT use Trim's Stables for horseback riding.
Book Captain John with D' Perfect Life boat charter to take you over to Nevis for the day. $500 for a 1995 45' Sea Ray. It's a little worn but definitely with it. The snorkeling was amazing.
The beach vendors are so bad now at Orient Beach that we don't ever want to go back there- they are relentless and bug you every two minutes. We times them! Which is sad because the food and drinks and service at Kin Tiki are superb.
