Review summary

This was our first cruise.  It was cold and rainy.  The ship isn't what I expected.  Not a lot to do when it is raining.  There are many shows, but most of the time you have to be dressed up.  We didn't use the anytime dining, since the first time we used it they announced that you cannot wear shorts.  We were not told that.  There are not enough FUN areas that are NON SMOKING.  The food is mainly in the back of the ship..  The back rocks very badly all the time.  Don't get me wrong I would like to try it again sometime.  I think it was mostly the bad weather.

The weather is not Carnivals fault. As far as dressing up on Carnivals website they list dress code for formal nights. On formal night no shorts unless you plan on eating on Lido deck(buffet).

Dressing up is recommended for formal night. If your going to wear shorts make sure they aren't ripped or torn. Pair them a shirt that is collared and has sleeves. I wouldn't wear a tank and shorts to dinner. You may feel out of place.

first time cruiser here, I was told to only bring shorts and tank tops. do I need to bring something nice like a dress for any reason? or even some jeans?

I just got off of the Fascination and wore shorts to dinner every night at 6p seating with the exception of formal night. If the seas were rough it wouldn't matter where the dining room is. And as someone already stated the only smoking area inside was at the Casino and Casino Bar. It rained our sea day on return and there was always plenty to do. What do you do on a non cruise vacation when there is poor weather?

I think the weather is what made it a bad time for you, if the weather was nice it's a whole different experience. Also you were right about the smoking, every where we sat on the lido deck we could smell cigarette smoke.

Next time book a longer cruise that sails further south, and you will have warmer weather. It's vacation enjoy yourself, your not at work.

Why would you think you could wear shorts to dinner in the dining room?? I'm sure if they were proper khaki shorts paired with a polo, button down and proper foot wear they would've let you in. Carnival is a lot more lenient than most cruise lines. And if my memory serves me the only exclusive smoking area was the Casino. There were plenty of other areas to enjoy yourselves.
