Review summary

My family and I (four of us in total) were very pleased with our cruise on the Carnival Fantasy. I was a bit concerned from the various reviews I've read and was anticipating some crummy conditions. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see the ship really is in good condition considering she is 30 years old. The crew was very friendly and accommodating. The food in the main dining room was good (4 out of 5 stars). The food in the buffet was a 3 out of 5 stars. Guys burgers and tacos from Blue Iguana are a solid 5 stars. I found the entertainment just okay. On the not so positive side were the size of the lounges such as the Cats and Cleopatras. I think they are small and not very comfortable. The bar stools are also very close to the bar and not comfortable and certainly don't lend themselves well in sitting at the bar for very long. Would I recommend the Fantasy? Yes, but only for a cruise of five days or less. Highly recommend getting of the ship on Cozumel and going something. It's a really fun port. We went to Mr. Shancos and glad we did. As for Progreso, we did the VIP, Chetsen Itza with Cenote and lunch and we were extremely pleased with this tour.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
They were okay. The buffet food is just that, nothing to wright him about. The main dining was good. My favorite were the tacos at Blue Iguana.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Plenty of deck chairs to go around.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
They were entertaining, but nothing of a wow type of performance.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
These people worked hard and were very kinds and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I was a bit concerned with all the comments about lack cleanliness and poor shape, but I was pleasely surprised in how good of a shape she is in for being 30 years old.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were extremely pleased with the condition and overall comfort we had in this Suite. Lots and lots of space, in the stateroom, the balcony was roomy and enjoyed the relatively large size of the bathroom.

Ship tip

Be ready for a lot of kids running around with out any sort of control coming from parents. It's as if once onboard the kids are let loose to run amuck without supervision.

Ports of call

Mobile, Alabama

Some great food. Friendly people. Had a blast at Battleship park, exploring some history.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
The stores on the pier were really good. I personally didn't find the shop keepers that aggressive at all. We did Mr. Shancho's and we really enjoyed the time there.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

5 out of 5
We went with the Carnival excursion for VIP, Chechen Itza, Cenote with lunch and we were extremely pleased with this tour.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I was surprised to see that just about 50% of the ship go off lugging their own luggage. By the time it came to our number (2) it was a casual walk off and the parking garage was more than 1/2 empty.
