Review summary

Fine for a quick getaway, but not our favorite cruise experience.

Embarkation

Embarkation was fairly efficient. We’re on board in less than an hour

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The MDR was just OK. Not a large selection. Usually about 9 items on the menu. The highlight was the option to order from an up charge menu for $23 pp. That menu offered a surf and turf with a small filet and nice lobster tail, a larger filet, a 14 oz. NY strip and lamb chops. Had the surf and turf one night and the larger filet another night. Both were excellent. Had the prime rib one night off the regular menu and it was not so hot. The Elation has no upscale restaurant option, so this is what you can order if you want a good steak. Service was excellent.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The casino was a good place to spend some time. They had non-smoking tables but smoke drifted over from time to time. Waiters took your drink orders efficiently then disappeared for 10-15 minutes before returning with your drink. Some blackjack tables paid 3-2, only fun blackjack and the $25 tables.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The main show performers were loud and semi-obscene, gyrating suggestively. Did not like them at all.

Mikado Main Lounge

Shows were poor. The Cruise director’s voice and presentation was annoying. He acted gay, not sure if he was, but it was offensive to me. Seemed like he was high on energy drinks or something. Fire him!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
By and large the service was good, except for getting drinks in the casino.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
For the age of the ship it was adequate. Clean and staff always busy. Many passengers left drinks all over the place which made the ship look messy.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We had cabin G36. It was spacious but a little worn. For being a suite, it lacked outlets. No place to plug in our CPAP machines except over the desk. Luckily we brought 2 of our own extension cords and hooked them up every night. Our advice: Bring a multi outlet power strip. One annoying thing: the lamps on the bedside tables were loose at the base and tilted over. Our cabin lady, Alexandria was great, kept the place neat and clean. Overall comfort level was a 9.5.

Ship tip

Don’t expect a new ship experience and you will not be disappointed. The Elation is fine for a short getaway, but if you go when school is out, the pool will be overrun with kids. We are in our 70’s and we avoided the pool area, just found a quiet place to play cards and read.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

Did not get off. Been there before

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Got off and rented a clamshell. After a few hours, went back to the ship and had lunch. TIP: The main beach area is very rocky at about waist level. When you get off the tender go over the bridge to the right. Less people.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were off in about 30 minutes. TIP: Get a porter. They can bypass the lines at customs and get you to the front. We were in out, shuttled to our lot and on the road at 9:00 am.
