Review summary

Ship was coming out of dry dock - we never knew any of this. We did not get on the ship the first day until 9:30P with 2500 other passengers. AWFUL.

MY cabin was next to a construction zone!!! Workers had masks on working on unfinished cabins. I smelled paint, chemicals, glue all day and night. I got sick and came home with an upper respitory infection!

Dutch3901 - PERFECT!!!

My first cruise (2009) was a Celebrity cruise to Alaska. 1st one of the year for that ship out of Seattle. The port was out of practice for the boarding process there and it was an absolute zoo. They moved us from room to room in groups based on our number assigned. Then moved us again, and again, like cattle. The people we were with were very unhappy, as were most folks. My friends asked me why I was smiling (and not unhappy). My exact reply was, as I pointed out the window at the Infinity, was “because, no matter how long it takes to board her, I’m sleeping on that ship tonight...” A dozen cruises later, I still have that same attitude... I have the excitement of a little boy when I cruise, and I chose to not allow extra time during embarkation, delays getting my luggage, or waiting in line to enter the MDR to rob me of my joy. Good grief-it’s a cruise! Enjoy the great time and quit griping about the small crap.and don’t let it shape your entire week! 😊There, now I feel better....

Yes we were notified of the delay in embarkation, but we still had to wait in line for hours to board the ship. The email on Sept 28 informed us that the boarding time had been delayed from 4 pm to 10 pm, with 4 hours being added to our selected time (our time was 1:30). The second email on Oct 7 told us that we needed to arrive by 7 pm to check in our luggage with no estimated sail time. We arrived at 6:21 pm to turn into the port of call and waiting nearly an hour to reach the parking lot, and then another 3 hours in a line to finally board the ship at 9:50 pm.

Emails were sent to guests on Sept. 28 and again on Oct. 7 for the first sailing out of dry dock.

besides, according to your profile, it shows NO cruise for you. When you pull up someone's profile, it shows all their cruises, past and future. At least on this site, it shows 0 - zero cruise, so why bash Carnival if you really didn't go on one? If an acquaintance of yours had a bad experience, they should be the one complaining.

I can understand the frustration of not being able to spend all of your 1st day at sea, BUT the dry dock was highly publicized. And in case you have been totally out of touch there was 1 or 2 hurricanes that set them back. And did you expect to be the only one on board? I hear the bigger ships hold a lot more. Surely a little delay in leaving which was NOT they're fault ruined your whole trip. We're cruising in a few weeks and this 1st timer can't wait!

No advance knowledge of advance docking time?

I knew about Elation drydock long before I found anything about it on the Carnival website. Searching for everything I could find out about the ship I was cruising on in November.

Did you not get the email they sent out informing you that arrival times had been changed to 7pm and later?? Carnival has also been updating about dry dock for several weeks!!

I understand how that would be a zoo, especially if you were caught off guard. I do wonder though, with it being fresh out of dry dock, did you enjoy anything about the ship? Did the boarding process ruin your entire week? If it did, that would be on you...

How did you not know? It was all over this site. Didn't you receive any information from Carnival prior to your cruise?

TNTGreen    7 years ago

Interesting you didn't know because I know they sent out emails about the late embarkation and it was posted on Carnival site.
