Good family cruise

Sail Date: August 13, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Oceanview

Overall great experience. We had our two kids (8 & 11) with us and they thoroughly enjoyed the Camp Carnival activities. Food service was a little slow for dinner but food quality was better than average In the main dining room. Ship does appear a little worn but still seems very clean.

Pros: Destinations and food.

Cons: More than half forward elevators were not working for the entire cruise.

Recommends Carnival Elation? Yes!

Ship Quality
At least half of the forward elevators were not working for most of the cruise.
Food and Dining
Food was best,of course, in the main dining room. The buffets and grills left a lot to be desired. We made sure we got up in time to eat breakfast in the dining room and always had dinner there as well.
Cabin / Stateroom
Entertainment
Did not seem to have as much going on as previous cruises. Would have liked more comedy shows or something along those lines.
Service and Staff
Children's Programs
Our kids loved every minute of the Camp Carnival program.
Progreso (Merida), Mexico
We wanted to see the Mayan ruins while we were there but failed to sign up for the excursions on the boat. We were actually happy for that. We ended up getting an excursion for $15 each that would have cost $65 from Carnival. It was a 25 minute ride there and back and about 45 minutes at the ruins. Save your shopping for Cozumel.
Cozumel, Mexico
We only did the shopping tour here and wish we would have done the Passion island tour based on the discussions with others on the ship. Sounds like it is the best tour for Cozumel.
