Review summary
Last year, we took a family vote before planning our big summer trip for 2018. After much negotiation, we chose a Carnival Cruise. Both the kids and grownups alike were extremely excited. We even ended up inviting another family to join us on the journey. We set out a change jar so the kids could help us save up throughout the year. I moved some stuff around at work we pulled together the funds. After a long school year and tons of last-minute cramming at the office, the time had finally come. We were ready to relax. THE GOOD. Our waiter, Jayson, was amazing. He went above and beyond to make us happy. He's a true asset to the Carnival Cruise team. He deserves the highest of praise. The entertainment was first class. The big shows each night were very well done. The acoustic guitarist was super talented. Unfortunately, she was located in the big lobby area. Probably would have been more well suited in a more intimate atmosphere. Joanne Rochelle at the piano bar each night was a treasure. A perfect way to end each day. THE BAD. Our room was 9390. We were located just below a kitchen that was extremely noisy 24-hours and day. We barely got any sleep. Of course, we went down to the front desk and asked for some help. We were told that all the rooms were full, but that we should keep checking in to see if anything came up. We did. Bleary eyed each morning we came seeking some sort of relief - as both my wife and I (and our kids) were starting to lose all enthusiasm for the trip. At first, we were offered the dinner photos at no charge. I don't mean to be picky, but all the pictures of all the people on the ship were already printed, and obviously just get thrown away if not purchased. That was a meaningless gesture. A couple of sleepless nights later, we were offered a steak dinner. We declined. And well, you can imagine how we felt when we saw what was on the menu that night for everyone on board. It was Filet Mignon. That was simply insulting. The staff apologized for the inconvenience. Inconvenience? A missing bar of soap is an inconvenience. Waiting in line each morning to see if a room has opened up might even be considered an inconvenience. Our friends who let our daughter cram into their room for a couple of nights were inconvenienced. But not sleeping for a week? That is something else. One night, my 11-year-old daughter recorded a video (https://youtu.be/wqJsmkGF0zk) of the the noise coming from our ceiling to play for the people at the help desk. The gentleman behind the counter did not have two minutes to spare to listen to the entire thing. He barely lasted 20 seconds of what we endured every 20-minutes for 6 nights straight. I would like to say we had a wonderful experience. I would like to recommend friends and family to see the sights and enjoy the shows. I would like to be sitting here planning my next cruise. But I honestly just can't. The lack of sleep combined with the lack of concern or effort from those staffed to solve such problems has left the entire family rather soured to the idea of taking another cruise. Which is a shame - because there were definitely some bright spots along the way. I just wish I had been rested enough to enjoy those moments.Embarkation
