Review summary

Food, staff, room and ambiance were great. It is geared toward families and younger people so if you are not into kids and partying, choose another cruise.

Embarkation

Lines moved very quickly and we were able to get to our room quickly. Staff prior to boarding was friendly and helpful. All of the water containers were empty.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The nightly dinner was exquisite and the staff couldn't be more attentive. Loved the Tandoor Grill, Indian food. Breakfast was not the best surprisingly, but the lunch buffet was also excellent with many specialty items. Drinks were made well although a bit pricey. Sometimes the ice machine was out of ice. I attended a "Tea" that was not managed well, such as scones were served without offering cream or lemon curd for them and I had to wait a long time to get cream for my tea.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Most of the activities were geared toward a much younger crowd. The two pools on board were always crowded and the hot tubs often had kids in them. I am not a sun worshipper, so laying out by the pool is not my idea of a fun activity. Nor do I like a smoky casino. There were some games and such but overall the activities did not really interest me or get me involved. I did treat myself to a wonderful massage which was beyond wonderful! My 17 year old son loved the teen group and playing basketball on the ship.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Cove Duo especially and string trio were my style and I enjoyed listening to them every day. I found myself listening to music more than anything else. The comedy shows were ok but too late and often at dinner time. Same with main shows. They were well done, but often were the same time as dinner or too close to dinner time.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
My 17 year old son loved the teen program and made many friends. He also enjoyed playing basketball and swimming. He was excluded from some of the competitions because of his age which I think was unfair.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall everyone was beyond helpful and everyone was friendly!! Our wait staff and room stewards were impeccable. Loved the smiles from staff and greetings from most. A couple of bar staff I found to be aloof/rude perhaps and also at the buffet there were some short tempered staff at times.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean in all areas. I did not like that you had to walk through the smoky casino to get to the other part of the ship with shops, etc. Also the dining room had a separate elevator which made it confusing. I found that many people seemed lost or unable to figure out where they needed to go to. Somewhat confusing overall.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Wow!! Our cabin was amazing!! Loved the layout, size, and the fact that we had our own balcony to enjoy the view, ocean and privacy.

Ship tip

It really is geared for younger, party type people. There are many kids and young people on board.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
We spent a few days touring the city. Wonderful city to explore if you've never been. It was in part why I chose this cruise.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We did an ATV excursion and beach. Beautiful beach and the staff on the ATVs were fantastic. Very fun and friendly. Great jungle atmosphere and the port shops and vibe were awesome. There were musicians entertaining as you walked off the ship.

Belize City, Belize

3 out of 5
We did not see the port or town because our boat took us right to the scuba diving and then a beach. The beach was a bit rustic is the best word. Some nice features, but the sand hurt your feet as did walking in the ocean. If you do not like scuba diving, there is history and i wish I had chosen that.

Cozumel, Mexico

We went to Chichen Itza and it was a great trip, great tour guide and a pretty port, beachfront.

Disembarkation

Had to wait a bit, but otherwise it was fine.

My wife and I are in our 70's and loved the Dream. We are not really the party type but could always find fun things to do.

I am not into kids nor do I party but I am sticking with carnival because it's still a fun ship so there.

I would imagine every cruise line would equate to that in the summer.

Carnival by definition in Summer equals kids and partying. Doesn't it?

My wife is not really into partying, but I'm a firm believer in it. Balance is what it's about lol
