I will only book shore excursions thru Carnival Cruise Line in the future as I travel in September 2017 due to my terrible and scary experience. Families traveling with children need to take responsibility for the way their children behavior.

I booked 2 excursions thru Cruise Only, NEVER AGAIN! I was alone, it was scary and uncomfortable. Details on the Belize trip did not mention I would be taken ALONE in a taxi to this little airport to get on a plane that seats 8 people. I was the only tourist the rest were workers on some Island. One we landed at the drop one worker off, back up in the air to San Pedro. Got off with then next stop with these other workers, ALL men. Did not know what to do or where to go. I asked a police officer how to get to the beach, she pointed to this scary narrow alley way to walk thru. Not really much of a beach, just little tiki bars where you can eat, lots of them. I did not want to get in the water as small boats where docked everywhere and seaweed was massive enough to get tangled up in. I was asked twice by these young guys if I wanted to buy weed or cocaine. I was so lost and scared I just wanted to get back in the plane back to Belize City. I went back to the airport to find flight was booked and I had to wait 2 hours. NEVER Again!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

Ship dinning was great. Not the breakfast bar, fake eggs and only bacon, cut up hot dogs and baked beans, really. Where was the sausage, country ham and/or scrapple.
Onboard Activities

Fun to watch people having fun
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Comedy club was great
Children's Programs
No children with me and the families that had kids did not keep them under control. Running around the halls making all kinds of noise. 3 boys got in the elevator only for one of them to hit all the floor buttons and run out leaving me having to stop at every floor. I was so mad!!

Ship tip
Fix the breakfast buffet to have breakfast food, not hot dogs and baked beans. The casino on this ship was right in the center and you had to walk right thru it to get where you wanted to go unless detouring thru the elevator or stairs to get around the casino. The SMOKE was awful you could smell it on both sides outside the casino. People NOT gambling just sitting at a bar in there to drink and smoke. I feel there should not be a bar in there just to smoke and drink, but to gamble your money away, probably while their kids were terrorizing the ship.
UHHHHH.. I'm reading this hoping on our cruise the kids stay home. Not what I want for a week, seeing we are trying to get away from kids. Sound like you had a terrible time. the excursion... OMG that sounded scary. Thanks for all the great info.
I finally found 1usabarbie's review. Here it is:

We always book through the ship when we have our kids. We are a little more adventurous and have went off on our own with guides. Not the safest thing to do- we had trouble in Belize almost not getting back to the ship. Thankfully even when we don't book through the ship we always make sure there are other passengers that are going with us. There definitely is a reason they tell you not to do it.
So what was the scary experience. We've sailed on the Dream twice and booked outside of Carnival with no issues. Just wondering what company you used and where.
I am with you 1usabarbie because Carnival guarantees and will refund all your money back and if you find it cheaper with someone else they say they will refund you 110%
