Service and Staff

Good service, though I’m not remembering a lot of specifics as I took this cruise a while ago. I do remember and I especially enjoyed having the Reverend Doctor E as a cruise director. He was funny and seemed to genuinely enjoy his work.

Ship Quality

I liked the 19th century French theme.

Cabin / Stateroom

I was happy to be in a balcony room, but the decor in the room was a bit tired. No big problem with the room, just not my favorite design.

Ship tip

See for yourself whether Carnival is for you. I thought it wouldn’t be, because I’m a quiet, introverted person who doesn’t drink, and heard it was a party line, particularly on short sailings. Well, I enjoyed my three-day solo cruise, which I took because I got a great deal. The vibe was energetic and upbeat, but never rude or intrusive. There were lots of families and most everyone seemed to be having a good time. Neither Obnoxious drunks nor hoards of screaming kids emerged in my presence, nor in subsequent Carnival cruises. I suppose Bahamas cruises in summer or during school vacations could be less mellow.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
I like Nassau. I’ve walked through it several times on my way to beach resort day passes and never had a problem. I think some people really don’t like tropical ports that aren’t either creations of cruiselines or indistinguishable from American resorts. Margaritaville and Serenity Beach are two good choices if you’re looking for a beach day that you can walk to from your ship. Local men may ask you if you want a cab ride. I’m not sure why this is so terrifying to some people. “No, thank you” works well, if you do not need a cab ride.
