Review summary

I hate to sound all negative, so let me say what Carnival did right. They gave us a spa gift card for our anniversary, their musicians and vocalists (loved the Conquistadors and the violin trio) were amazing, the food in the dining room was good, and Half Moon was beautiful. Unfortunately the positivity ends there. Things Carnival did not do well that made our cruise not feel like the luxurious vacation it should’ve been: Cleanliness was AWFUL. The scum line on the pool was baffling. The constant grime (hair globs, black scum/ mold around the edges and on every step) and food on the deck (from the second we got on) was inexcusable. The windows were filthy. The staff was incredibly slow at clearing tables for people to sit at in the buffet. The guy at the omelet station walked away from our omelets and they burned. The guy at the deli counter was rude when I asked for a wrap to be made without bacon (allergy). The crew overall did not look happy to be there. Our stateroom bathroom smelled like urine. I felt like our stateroom was clean, so the smell was due to age of the ship. On our sea day, there was a group of several women on the adult deck that had been drinking too much and were getting very loud and blasting inappropriate music (several curse words). When I approached the guy working the towel station, he said he would call his supervisor. Thirty minutes passed, other guests were clearly annoyed, so I went back to ask him to speak to them again. He said he would call his supervisor again. Nothing was done. We were on the Serenity Deck, so it should’ve been quiet and serene. It wasn’t . Carnival did not enforce the dining room dress code. (I don’t want to see a man’s hairy armpits when I’m eating a nice dinner.) I didn’t like seeing the dishes piled up so close to us in the main dining rooms. In all honesty, we will not cruise Carnival again unless it’s a brand new ship and basically free. It felt understaffed and dirty. I would like to thank a few people who were kind and made us feel like we were actually cruising! Mario (room steward) was great. Craig (excursion counter) was very kind and NOT pushy! Joanne (I think that’s her name. She was in charge of seating people in the dining room.) was always pleasant and happy to see us. Arifin and Allan were our favorite waiters. Allan went out of his way to get me a bowl of strawberries for my dessert at brunch. That was very much appreciated! I wish the rest of the crew would’ve been as happy and ready to help as these 5 were. It would’ve completely changed our vacation!

Ship tip

There are several smoking areas, and one of them is inside (deck 5 casino). Because of the layout of the ship, we had to walk through the smoking area to get to other places.

Close to airport, but not the prettiest view. Great convenience, though!

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

The water was amazing! The lunch on the island could’ve been better as there were not many healthy side dish options. I tried a few different healthy sides, and they were not good. The water was incredible, though, and I quickly forgot about the disappointing lunch.

Nassau, Bahamas

BUSY and dirty. We didn’t feel safe. We didn’t take anything valuable off the ship. The US embassy had a warning out about not going out of tourist areas and avoiding certain excursions. The CDC also had a Zika warning out, so we used bug spray and wore long sleeves. We got off the ship around 10:30am and got back on around 1:00pm. That was plenty of time for us to get some souvenirs and take a few pictures.

We have 55 cruises in with carnival and over 400 sea days , there is always some minor problem , but if you speak up , it will usually be taken care of . As far as employees , yes they have cut back. For instance room stewards used to have 30 rooms to clean now most have over 70 the help is just plain worn out . And most waiters and waitresses in the Cassini work a 14 -16 hour day 14 days in a row to get one day off .

We cruise 7 times a year on Carnival and still have never had a bad experience. Guess they saved it all for you.

We have always enjoyed the Carnival Conquest. It is one of our favorite ships. We have been on her 5 *. We love the tiered levels of the Lido deck, the AFT pool which is adults only, the pool that is at the end of the water slide is our favorite. The food isn't five star, but for the most part the food is very good two excellent for us. You can find fault with any cruise ship or any Cruise Line. I don't think there's ever been a time when we haven't seen somebody painting something cleaning something or making some kind of repair somewhere. There is one thing that I totally agree with you about is people with Bluetooth speakers should keep the volume level low enough for just them to here, music is very subjective and at X I don't care to hear some of the music that is being played

Dont waste time with New ships eithet....went on Breeze in December 2017 and it was just as bad as what you explained. It was our 1st and last Carnival cruise....will stick with Royal and Princess

Oops sorry typing this while pulling my suitcase through the terminal.

Bosslady... I want to be like you when I grow up! You must have your own business to be able to cruise every 3 months.

bosslady21    6 years ago

Wow shame it sucked for you Ive been on the conquest 3 times, matter of fact was on in Feb and May and was treated like royalty. Considering I cruise every 3 months on Carnival I'm glad to not have not had those experiences.

Sounds like you should just stay home !

Wow, when was your cruise? We know people who just got off the ship and loved it. I can't understand how opinions are so much different.
