Review summary
I hate to sound all negative, so let me say what Carnival did right. They gave us a spa gift card for our anniversary, their musicians and vocalists (loved the Conquistadors and the violin trio) were amazing, the food in the dining room was good, and Half Moon was beautiful. Unfortunately the positivity ends there. Things Carnival did not do well that made our cruise not feel like the luxurious vacation it should’ve been: Cleanliness was AWFUL. The scum line on the pool was baffling. The constant grime (hair globs, black scum/ mold around the edges and on every step) and food on the deck (from the second we got on) was inexcusable. The windows were filthy. The staff was incredibly slow at clearing tables for people to sit at in the buffet. The guy at the omelet station walked away from our omelets and they burned. The guy at the deli counter was rude when I asked for a wrap to be made without bacon (allergy). The crew overall did not look happy to be there. Our stateroom bathroom smelled like urine. I felt like our stateroom was clean, so the smell was due to age of the ship. On our sea day, there was a group of several women on the adult deck that had been drinking too much and were getting very loud and blasting inappropriate music (several curse words). When I approached the guy working the towel station, he said he would call his supervisor. Thirty minutes passed, other guests were clearly annoyed, so I went back to ask him to speak to them again. He said he would call his supervisor again. Nothing was done. We were on the Serenity Deck, so it should’ve been quiet and serene. It wasn’t . Carnival did not enforce the dining room dress code. (I don’t want to see a man’s hairy armpits when I’m eating a nice dinner.) I didn’t like seeing the dishes piled up so close to us in the main dining rooms. In all honesty, we will not cruise Carnival again unless it’s a brand new ship and basically free. It felt understaffed and dirty. I would like to thank a few people who were kind and made us feel like we were actually cruising! Mario (room steward) was great. Craig (excursion counter) was very kind and NOT pushy! Joanne (I think that’s her name. She was in charge of seating people in the dining room.) was always pleasant and happy to see us. Arifin and Allan were our favorite waiters. Allan went out of his way to get me a bowl of strawberries for my dessert at brunch. That was very much appreciated! I wish the rest of the crew would’ve been as happy and ready to help as these 5 were. It would’ve completely changed our vacation!Embarkation

Ship tip
There are several smoking areas, and one of them is inside (deck 5 casino). Because of the layout of the ship, we had to walk through the smoking area to get to other places.
