Review summary

My first time cruising and there were things I loved about it, but there were things that made me go "hmmmm". Overall, it was super relaxing but the food was not as good as I expected and not available at all hours. I had to pay for room service one night, due to missing dinner before ship dining areas closed. I also didn't care for most of the entertainment...too one-sided. I did enjoy the last night - lip sync battle; 80s trivia, etc. It was the most fun entertainment of the entire 5 days. The most surprising thing was the $67 dollars added to my final bill for guest services gratuity...wth. This is something that should not be a surprise to people when they're trying to check out. I was very disappointed in this and not sure of taking another carnival cruise.

Ship tip

Make sure you have money on the card for the unknown cruise services gratuity that will be added to your final bill. Ours was $67 a piece.

All ships are pretty much the same. Hard working staff unless you get a grumpy one. You can spend LOTS more on some lines to get what you want.

I advise first timmers to always research. If you not going thru a travel agent. You tube have thousands of videos about cruising. Land trips also.

Give it another chance

Gratuities are listed on your account before you even cruise and you can prepay them, not a surprise at all.

Whether you cruise with Carnival,.NCL, RC, MSC, etc...you will have gratuity charges from every cruise line!

Every single cruiseline has gratuities. Sometimes they have a special where gratuities are free, otherwise everyone pays.

Trish, I hope you cruise again, it is so much fun! Gratuities are added by every cruise line, not they don't tell you that it is negotiable. If you do not feel that you received exceptional service then you can tell guest services that you would like to leave a different amount upon check out. I hope you give it a second chance. Its definitely a learning process!
