Review summary

Had a good time with friends. If we hadn't gone with another couple it wouldn't have been that much fun for us this time.

Embarkation

First time cruising from Ft. Lauderdale so it was a little different than how we boarded in Miami last year. Wasn't a fan of how they did role call for meuster. It took twice as long as usual, which is already a long time for repeat cruisers.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the dining room was great as always but the décor was super outdated. Food is good but the selections were the same almost every day on the buffet. A better variety would have been nice. Wine package was unbelievably expensive this time. I paid $198 for 5 bottles of wine that would have cost me $40 at home.

Vincent's Bar

3 out of 5

I am gonna rate this bar ok only because of the experiences we dealt with all week. The bar staff is AMAZING!!! However, there isn't anyone in charge to help this poor guy out. He had 20 people at the bar all ordering frozen drinks and nobody to help him. He worked so hard. Also, there were a group of kids that kept sitting at the bar. The bartender kept telling them that they couldn't sit there but there was nobody to enforce this. There were a couple little girls (12-14) that were flirting with grown men at this bar several times. No parents to be seen the whole time. There needs to be a better way to handle these problems

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We couldn't play mini golf after trying 4 times because there were only 6 balls at any given time and a line of people waiting to play. The shuffle board was over uneven ship boards. Kids in the adult only hot tub 3 times that we went. Fitness center was awesome!!

Entertainment

Shows were great, especially the 80's show. Loved it!! The comedians were great as well. DJ's played to the crowd which was appreciated.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Wait staff was amazing. They knew our names upon sitting down at the table. They struck up friendly conversation and kept us in the know about the following days ports and important events. Bar staff was great as well. However, this was the worst service we have had in 6 cruises from our room stewards!! It was also the first time we haven't left additional gratuities for them.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This ship is SERIOUSLY OUTDATED!!!! It needs dry docked and remodeled. It wasn't fun like some of the other ships we have been on. The dining rooms weren't pretty like on other ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin size is just fine for as much as you are in it. Wish the shower was a tad bigger but it is fine. Worst cabin service on any Carnival ship. Pizza cheese under the front of the dresser upon entering on the first night. We didn't make a big deal about it thinking that when they came in to do the nightly service and towel animals it would be cleaned. We never received night service and had to remove it ourselves 2 days later. They emptied our garbage, gave us fresh towels when needed, and made our bed every evening. Nothing above or beyond.

Ship tip

If you are looking for a newer, prettier, more updated ship, this one isn't for you. It does have Guy's Burger Joint and the Blue Iguana Cantina which is cool, but the décor is outdated and the sports decks are in need of some serious TLC.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Nassau, Bahamas

It usually doesn't bother me when you arrive at a port in the Caribbean and vendors are trying to get you to buy their stuff but this port was ridiculous!! I felt scared at some points. You couldn't walk 2 feet without someone in your face. This happened throughout the whole shopping area, even the nicer stores. We ended up jumping in a cab and going to Atlantis for the day and then straight back to the ship. It was disappointing not being able to shop.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
One of the best ports in the Caribbean. Amazing beach, great BBQ, and super friendly staff.

Grand Turk Island

One of our favorite ports as well. We did an all inclusive excursion and it was fantastic. It was a private beach with 2 bars and ocean toys (kayaks, bikes, trampolines, etc.). We snorkeled and found 6 conch shells, sand dollars, and got to see lots of beautiful fish. Bartenders and the DJ made our stay very enjoyable. They danced and sang and had a good time with all the guests. 2nd time on this excursion and won't be the last for sure.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

No public beach. If you want to swim in the Caribbean Sea you have to take a 45 minute shuttle ride (on unpaved roads) to the other side of the island as they port you on the Atlantic Ocean side. There is a small shopping village. We were off of the ship for about an hour and spent the day on the ship.
