Review summary

Overall had a great cruise. It is what you make it. Doing a Princess Cruise on the Royal over the Christmas holidays and will be nice to compare Princess to Carnival.

Embarkation

Excellent. Really liked the new system. Expedited the process since our last cruise 18 months ago.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and drinks were all great especially the steak house. Felt rushed in the main dining room though. Servers were extremely friendly but didn't seem quite as attentive as previous cruises. Only asked once on 4 trips to the main dining room if we wanted tea or coffee after our meals. I am assuming cutbacks somewhere along the line.

Steakhouse

5 out of 5

Everything was beyond superb. Can't say enough good things about the service or the food. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Would've likedto see a better selection of music in the public areas. For the most part it was decent but not much variety with the exception of the Artists Lobby.

Entertainment

Artists' Lobby

5 out of 5

Decent variety here but always packed because the other music venues didn't have much to offer or at least not for us.

Children's Programs

Didn't have our kids with us on this cruise.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
As mentioned above there seems to be many cutbacks in various ares of the ship. All employees seemed to be rushed all the time and things are getting missed. Towels, glasses not replaced in the stateroom. A choice of daytime and/or nighttime service but both weren't encouraged. Seemed to only want to do one or the other. No robes in the stateroom. Waiters seemd rushed in the main dining room for every meal.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
All good here. No complaints. Surprised actually that for a 15 year old ship the Conquest was in excellent shape. Well maintained indeed.

Cabin / Stateroom

Had a 4J which was considered Interior but had a huge picture window facing the front of the ship. Couldn't see in through the window from the outside during the day but during the night if the curtains were open you could see straight through the room. First time in 28 yeras since we didn't have a balcony room and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of room.

Ship tip

Don't book the post cruise transfer from Carnival. An aboslute waste of money and not cheap at that. We had a 12:05 pm flight from Miami and docked in Port Everglades. We opted for the walk off with our luggage to save on time. The waiting area in the theatre was chaos and then when we finally got off which didn't take too long we sat on a bus for more than an hour waiting on other passengers. It was just as well if we had sent our luggage off overnight and waited for our zone to be called. We paid $82.00 cdn for 2 people and probably could've taken a cab for half that and been at the airport with more than 10 ins to spare. That was ridiculous. That was our first time flying home and using the post cruise transfer the day we disembarked and we willnever do that again. Too stressful. Waste of money.Waste of time when we could've taken our time and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and our last hours on the ship.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
No excursions other than post cruise transfer to Miami airport which was a disaster.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Not impressed. Seemed rundown and musty smelling in most areas. Mind you we do know they are still recovering from the hurricane damage so that can be overlooked somewhat. Have been before and did excursions on previous cruises but not this time.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
Loved this port of call. No excursion. Have been here before.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Also loved this port of call. No excursion. Have been here before.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
First time in Amber Cove and loved this port as well. No excursion. Shopped and dined on the pier area.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Horrible. We had a post cruise transfer from Carnival and will never do that again. Unorganized. Absolute waste of time and money.
