Overall, a very nice and relaxing trip. Enjoyed the southern Caribbean area and would recommend it to anyone. Next time I would probably not go to the Dominican. Have a nice cruise.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
The ship was three hours late boarding due to being in dry dock the previous week. They transported us to a local mall by bus, if we chose, to kill 3 hours until we started boarding procedures. The bus driver took all the back neighborhood streets getting to the mall, to kill time we guess, it took us 30 minutes, and by the time we got there we were told the first bus to the ship would be leaving in 30 minutes. Waste of time dragging carry on luggage for a 30 minute walk around a mall when we should have just waited in the airport. When back on the bus, it took 10 minutes to get to the ship. From there the process went smooth.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Depending on where you ate on the ship. The main dinning room was good. Guy's Burger joint was great. The buffet was mediocre. Sailed on the conquest 2 years ago and the food all around was good to great. This trip, in the buffet, it appeared that they were attempting to save money by using a lot of tasteless canned foods. Most of the deserts looked very good but didn't have much taste to them, just bland. The fish and chip area is now a BBQ. Not Guy's on this ship. Portions were small and sides were not very tasty. Pork butt was decent.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Pools were nice and other activities, if you participated, looked good. i.e. basketball, walking track, etc. Miniature golf course was in bad shape and disrepair.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Stage shows were very good! Band that played in the lobby most of the time, the J Mills collective, I believe, were fantastic! Comedy mentalist that was there was great and very funny.

All very polite, helpful and nice.
Ship Quality

As a whole, the ship was clean and neat. Having said that, we had a balcony and it was dirty when we arrived and were told that they would clean it. During the trip they gave notice that they would be cleaning the balcony's twice during the cruise. Balcony looked the same the entire 8 day trip Chairs and small table were dirty. Other that that, the ship was clean, but old or well used and in need of a refit.
Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin was comfortable, clean and well maintained by the staff. We had no hot water when we arrived. We notified our Stewart an it was promptly taken care of. As previously stated, the balcony was always dirty.
Did no excursions, just stayed around the port. Carnival has a couple of pools and a water slide that are free. The zip line, boats, boards, cabanas, food and drinks all cost money. Over all a nice port if you are staying close to the ship and are doing no excursion.
Port is in an industrial area. If you do not do an excursion there is nothing to see just outside the port area. They did have vendors just outside the duty/tax free shop. One was a Mojito stand that we visited. When had visited on in St Marrten on a previous cruise, so we stopped and bought one here. $3 for the drink and for $5 you could double the alcohol. We did that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! The rum was so watered down that with even a double shot, you could not taste it. I took half of it back and told them it was the most watered down rum I had ever tasted and they excitedly told me that they would give me better liquor. I walked away.
