Review summary
We recently sailed on Carnivals Conquest for 7 days. We are a couple with 2 teenagers and wanted a relaxing vacation. We chose this cruise based on the origination point being 40 miles form our home. We understood it was a Fun Ship and anticipated that it may be more boisterous than our previous cruises with Princess (5 years ago) and Holland America (8 years ago). Boarding was well done in general but we began to get a feel for our fellow passengers and were a bit concerned about them. At the risk of sounding elitist, there were a lot of beer swilling, t-shirt wearing people in full view. Generally speaking, if I walked into a lounge and saw them I would leave. In general the food was only fair. The buffet restaurant was marginal at best the service in that facility was absolutely awful. The main dinning room had far better food and service was reasonably good. The requirements of a collared shirt made the Monnet Restaurant a respite from the other passengers. Beverage Service was good throughout the ship with the exception of the pool bars. It seemed that the concept of serving Cokes at the bars frustrated the staff to the point of irritability and for the most part the bartenders were a pretty surly lot. The Stateroom was spacious but was extremely noisy. Hallway noise was always an issue up to 2:00 am from other passengers slamming doors and banging loudly on doors to gain admittance back to their rooms as they had forgotten their key. The dcor of the stateroom was dated and cleanliness was only fair. Pools were small and general deck conditions were always cluttered. The cleanliness levels were not good and by the end of the day all 3 pools looked like bio hazards probably due to the swimmer loads per gallon of water. Our family did not go into any of them.Ship experiences
