Review summary
We have sailed on seven different lines to date. Carnival out of Galveston TX was by far the worst run ship, full of the most annoying, uncouth, and inebriated Texan passengers that I have ever experienced. That Carnival included a mandatory gratuity rather than providing individual envelopes for tipping was a very poor idea. Ergo the crew did as little as possible, room staff was the bare minimum compared to Celebrity, Holland America or Royal Caribbean. The exception was our waiter and our buss boy in the main dining room. We elected to adjust our gratuities in order to reward those who actually seemed to care about their jobs. Nevertheless it was difficult to deal with the pursers office even for that action. Very long lines for everything and most locations were understaffed to deal with the number of passengers trying to complain, or eat or whatever. No ships staff was available in any of the ports to direct people to their prepaid tours; many people missed their busses, boats etc for this reason. Grand Cayman being the worst example of this easily avoided annoyance. The $100 massages both my wife and I signed up for were nothing but "buff and puff", no real effort on the part of the therapist and way too much talking just to use up time which should have been spent actually getting a massage! Then they tried to sell me $170 in bath salts, and Im male! The extra charges for almost everything on board were annoying and excessive as well. No one bothered to mention parking fees either. Hidden or unpredicted built in gratuity for many services were not appreciated. Over all we had a good time, but not too much thanks goes to Carnival for that, we made our own fun. I would never recommend this cruise line to anyone.Ship experiences
