Carnival Conquest

7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip)

Sail date: October 22, 2006

Ship: Carnival Conquest

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The cruise was not what we were hoping. We have sailed on Royal Carribean and Celebrity in the past, and were hoping for a similar experience on Carnival. We were very dissapointed in our vacation, and it was definately not a good value for the dollar.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Overall, the food was typical of a Golden Corral buffet. Quantity over quality. Some of the smaller options like pizza and the deli were so understaffed that they were not worth the usual long wait for service. The food in the main dining room was hit or miss, mostly miss.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Loud, childish, and obnoxious are the descriptions that come to mind in this category.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The dining room waiters and stateroom attendant were the only bright sports here. Overall, the staff was very unaccomidating and seemed burnt out. The bar staff was the worst we have ever experienced at sea. I cannot think of a single example of an employee going "above and beyond".

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Very large ship - made the poor weather a bit more bearable. The design of the decor or "theme" was poorly concieved and executed. The ship was very clean and in good repair.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Bed was comfortable with nice linen. Very nice overall. We chose the Guaranteed Inside Stateroom, and got a wheelchair accessable room. So, the bathroom was huge. Had we gotten a typical room, I'm not sure we woould have been so satisfied.

Ports of call

George Town, Grand Cayman

Did the stingray city again. Always fun, but this tour group was not as good as the other 2 we have taken.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Mini jeep tour was fun, but the reefs have been destroyed by the recent storms. Do not bother snorkeling here, nothing to see but dead coral.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

1 out of 5
Bus driver had a death wish. Dunn's River was nice, but not worth a 5.5 hour death trip on the bus. Tour overpriced. The "professional shopping expert" on the ship sent us to a jewlery store looking for a watch - his personal recommendation - they had a very poor selection, and the prices were higher than in the States.

Pros: Handicapped Room upgrade

Cons: Embarcation debacle

Recommends Carnival Conquest? No.
