Price was great, had fun with family and friends. Crew was friendly, food was good. Like I said Carnival is Carnival. There is no wow factor, but you will have a good time.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had a concierge, so it was amazing
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was actually better than usual for a mass market cruise line. A few misses but for the most part the variety, quality and timeliness were very good
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The Breeze is ten years old and shows it. She has the ropes course, water park etc. but none of the new wow features you will find on newer builds.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
Same old song and dance reviews reworked over and over. Carnival needs to up their game and offer Broadway Shows, Comedians and Piano bar were fun.
Children's Programs
All in our party were over 18
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Waiters knew our names and preferences; bar staff were fast and made great drinks, sometimes they were swamped but they dealt with that well. Entire crew was friendly.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
As with most Carnival ships there are a few decks that you cannot transit because the gallies are in the way. You end up with dining rooms isolated from the rest of the ship except for one lift/staircase.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
This is an interior cabin so nothing spectacular, but it was clean and has plenty of storage. Typical old school outlet at the desk so you can't charge your phone next to the bed but, nothing unusual there. It is forward on the ship, so you do feel a bit of motion. I actually prefer being rocked to sleep and we were in calm waters.
Ship tip
There is always something going on so just join the fun.
What can you say about Galveston? It's ugly, far from the airport, the terminal is old tired and uncomfortable, but it gets the job done. If you are driving the parking fees aren't outrageous about $70 a week. Typical for Texas if you don't travel by car, you aren't going anywhere. We don't do mass transit; it would save are oil.
There are ruins you could visit but it's mostly a beach stop. It's fun when it's not raining. Negotiate and negotiate again and again to get the best price beach package including the short transit to the beach, lunch, drinks and chairs. Don't buy a package from the ship. You should be able to cut the price pretty much 50% from the asking price. Don't prebook as you are going to decide by the weather the day you are there. If it's raining stay on the ship. The beach is beautiful however. The port shopping is actually pretty good and prices will be lower than most other stops.
After the umpteenth time for us it's just part of the price you pay for leaving from Galveston which is close to home for us. Understandably everything there is just to grab your dollars so do research on what the current value is for everything you are interested in buying. the rental jeeps, dune buggies are fun but don't expect to not have to problem solve at some point. If you rent a scooter, remember the road that circles the island is probably longer than you think so mind the sun. We have been so many times we have a routine; walk out of the port turn left walk a few blocks to Ernestos to enjoy the friendly staff have a few beers while using the free WiFi. Great view of the water and ships, try the ceviche.
Appreciate your feedback. If you don’t like Carnival, why do you book a cruise on this line? Glad you made the best of a situation you didn’t plan to enjoy!
