Review summary

We did not really enjoy this cruise as much because my husband got sick the first nite out. They wanted us off the ship in the Dominican Republic because he had an irregular heartbeat. We told them that was him and he always had it but they did not care. They were going to leave us stranded there with no way home. We have passport cards & not passport books. But we did not have the money for flights home which we could not get anyway. We were told we would have to drive four hours to get passport books. The US Embassy stepped in and got us back on the ship. The doctors were not happy to see us back on the ship. Oh and they made us to take all of our luggage with us. We will not sail with Carnival ever again. We were not happy with the way they treated us on the Breeze. They did not care if we had a way home or not they wanted my husband off of the ship.

We had a similar experience on the NorwegianSky in Havana Cuba. My wife woke up not feeling well, went to sick bay they ran some tests and sent her to a loc hospital for further evaluation. The Doctor cleared her as fit to continue on with the Cruise but when we tried to board the ship they had blocked her as unfit to travel and basically blocked her from the ship. We had to sign a waiver releasing Norwegian cruise lines from any accountability should anything happen on the remainder of the cruise before they would let her back on. It’s just their way of covering their ass should something happen. As frustrating as it is, I totally understand their point of view.

First off I'm glad, your husband is ok and sorry to hear about your cruise experience. Going forward, no matter which cruise line you choose, always travel with a passport book! Secondly, as mentioned earlier, take medical documentation stating the heart issue is safely normal for your husband. Lastly always have travel insurance to protect your vacation investment just in case your unable to continue a cruise due to medical reasons. Hope you enjoy your next vacation.

I pray your husband is doing better.

Makes good sense to me, the cruise line was looking out for the other guests experience. Better to please 3,500 guest than 2. They decided precaution for your husband's medical condition and you decided to chance the rest of the passengers cruise experience. Did you ever consider that?

Not sure what sickness your husband had that sent him to the infirmary which alerted the medics on his irregular heart beat but there must have been a concern. Not too long ago there was a case where they didn't get a patient care quick enough and that patient died. So they can't win. I'm glad you got to enjoy most of the cruise. And I would say that if your husband has an underlying condition that you have medical paperwork documenting what is normal for him. If you chose to cruise with another company it will be helpful to them so this doesn't happen again. Plus as the other shipmate stated, get a proper passport.

Very good reason to NEVER cruise without a passport book! A passport "card" is kinda worthless in that it is same as a BC and DL and is not a real passport. Also, sadly you cannot blame cruise line for wanting you off with potential heart problems at sea as obviously it was causing him problems and not trivial.
