Review summary

It's all in what you make of it. I was Wowed on my first cruise on the Miracle last year. I felt disappointed and surprised at the contrast. I really am a very positive person, I try to make the best of everything all the time. I just tried to focus on the fact we were on vacation and got engaged and let that keep me lifted up.

Embarkation

There was a delay rumoured that previous guests were being arrested. Once they finally started allowing people on board it did go fairly smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Traveled on the Miracle last year as a first time cruiser, so I expected the same quality and variety of foods from the Carnival team. Was very disappointed in the buffets. On a daily basis they were the same. Breakfast never changed especially. Cannot speak of lunch because we ate in port. Sea Days lines were mobbed and buffets were never open at posted times on Carnivals Hub app. We would go back an hour before it was scheduled to close on those mobbed days and the shades were already pulled. Main Dining was nice, we ate "at your time" so we never saw the nightly dancing the waiters do like on the Miracle. El Capiton Italian Restaurant was excellent. When I inquired jokingly about the sauce recipe the waitress brought me a printed copy. Also LOVED the Fish and Chips and Seafood platter from the Seafood Shack. I'm a New England girl transplanted in Florida and the Seafood is blah...but it was a true taste of home. Very reasonable prices too. Lastly I heard all the hype of Guys Burgers, and had one the first day. Did it taste good? Heck yes, but the amount of grease made me insanely sick for about two hours. Fish bowls during happy hour in the Red Frog Pub...so worth their value and delicious!

Onboard Activities

comedy club was always packed and not even standing room only was available 30 before the show started. People would attend the first show and keep their seats for the next ones. Suggestion of having the staff clear the room to allow other guests a fair chance. If you have a scheduled dining time it would be impossible to see a comedy show unless you stay up to catch the 11pm show. On extra sea day there was very little added to the itinerary. Hurricane Q&A??!!??

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We caught two shows that were both done with the same 8 performers and they were entertaining.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Steward was very polite. He did always great us by name if he saw us in the hallway. I tipped him extra to put up a few decorations I left to surprise my fiance for his 50th birthday and he did a great job. We did get walked in on twice at odd times of the day when our room was already cleaned, after the second time we learned to hang our snoozing card on the door. On a negative note a few of the servers in the buffet were sneezing, coughing etc without even attempting to cover their mouths. The girl pushing the pastry and coffee cart around was coughing uncontrollably and never covered her mouth at all.

Ship Quality

Loved the layout, most areas were clean. We had a room in the center hallway and the laundry carts were always in our way. I can't imagine passengers that have any size to them being able to pass comfortably.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved the layout. It was very comfortable without feeling crowded. Bathroom drain had a strong urine smell at different times of the day. We just kept the door closed so it didn't affect the room. AC was not working when we came back from a port. We had planned on napping but just went on deck to find a comfy spot. By the time we went back it was starting to cool down. A couple nights it got very hot.

Ship tip

The ship really is beautiful. It was packed with families and a lot of unsupervised kids that I heard multiple people complain about, but I didn't let it bother me. Our Cruise Director MarQ was awesome so where ever he was always was packed. Plan on going early and finding a spot to be able to watch because it fills up quick.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Loved our trip of seeing the history of the island. We went way overtime and almost didn't make the ship, but thankfully we booked through Carnival so they knew we were out there.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We went "ring" shopping and found one. Was very discouraged at the amount of high pressure we got at every shop we walked into. Food was expensive so we ended up grabbing a snack of Nachos, a beer and lemonade and it still cost 25.

San Juan, Puerto Rico Did not visit port

Our trip here was cancelled due to the impeding hurricane Dorian.

Grand Turk Island

Disembarkation

Waited crammed on our floor by the elevator for an hour and half. We followed the disambiguation rules to a T. There was a number of elderly passengers there as well with no place to sit while we all patiently waited
