Review summary

Great time!!! We have cruised with several lines (Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean) and we always come back to Carnival. The price, amenities, OBC, friendliness, etc. This ship is amazing. (although appears to be ready for a dry dock and deep clean) The staff is friendly and accommodating. We had a great time and were so sad to have it end. Will definitely cruise this ship again in the future (sooner than later)

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy embarkation. So simple and fast. However, the fact that the keys to the room are in the mail slot by the stateroom when the room is ready is rather frustrating because you have no room key/sail and sign card to buy a drink with or log into the HUB app. You have to have you folio number available and this causes way too much chaos. I understand the idea behind this change but the implementation is not working.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet was good. Main dining room was good but we did have to wait quite some time one night (2 hours). We were quoted 30 minutes but waited over 2 hours. The dining management sent us a treat the next day and apologies for the inconvenience.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Ropes course, water slides, serenity deck. Loved the Carnival Hub app WHEN IT WORKED!!! Great idea but poor in execution.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The piano bar was fun, as always. The comedy was good. The DJ on the main pool deck blasted the music so loud that the speakers were crackling. This was annoying because the quality was so poor. The entertainment(shows) were the same shows as 3 years ago and are dated. No need to go to them(although we did because we didn't realize until the show started). The cruise director was great; Schwartz. He runs second place to Matt Mitcham in our opinion.

Children's Programs

Our children just graduated high school and are 18. Although, one child in this group will be 18 in 1 month and was not allowed into the club whereas the others were. This is understandable because there must be a line drawn somewhere. However, this was a graduation cruise and it seems as though there should be more for the 17-18 crowd to do.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward was okay. They have changed the way they do things I guess and we did not receive towel animals every night and I believe our towel animal was the same one for most of the cruise. Nothing exciting there. Room only was cleaned twice the whole time, had to ask for towels, etc. Our luggage was "lost" for awhile the forst day. The tag had apparently come off (not sure exactly how since it was stapled on about 15 times) Anyway, had to go to front desk and inquire. Very friendly service. I had a picture of my luggage and he recognized it immediately and retrieved it for me. Shore excursion desk was helpful and friendly. I wish they would have someone openly promoting buying another cruise while onboard with discounts. I would have booked another cruise.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Love the layout of this ship. We took this ship in 2016 and loved it so much. That is why we booked it again, along with the awesome itinerary.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was great. Love the darkness of an inside cabin. Size was fine and it was clean when we arrived. However, as previously stated, cabin was rarely cleaned throughout the cruise

Ship tip

Learn the layout so you're not wasting time being lost. Book excursions ahead of time. Wait until you get onboard to download the HUB app because if you do it ahead of time it won't work properly and even then it probably won't work properly. Do not buy FTTF for this itinerary because there is no tender port and it will be a waste of money unless you spend loads of time at the customer service desk.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
No excursion in Port Canaveral. Stayed at Country Inn and Suites and it was GREAT. Embarkation was a BREEZE. Much improved over the past.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
Loved this port. Beautiful place. However, drinks were very high priced in this port. Pool was great but the blocked off VIP area took up half the area and that was annoying. Kids did the jungle ATV tour. They LOVED it!!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
St Thomas is beautiful, always.Went to Paradise Point. Little overpriced for the ride but it was nice nonetheless. $1 cheaper to book through Carnival than on the island.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
One of our favorite ports EVER!!! Walked around and enjoyed the sights.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Love Turks and Caicos. No need for an excursion because Margaritaville is right there. Kids did flowrider (booked in advance) and had a blast! Credit card machine kept going down and there were only 2 bartenders at the swim up pool bar so this was aggravating. (Lots of angry people). We got there early, placed an order, got to know our bartender, Joel, and opened a tab so we did not ever have to wait too long but there was a ship of 4700 passengers so they really need to be more prepared with staffing on those days.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
So fast and painless (except for the fact that vacation was over). Disembarkation was made so simple.
