Review summary

Great ports and excellent dining room staff. Customer service was a failure in my opinion for the rest of our trip.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room was our best experience on board! The staff was OUTSTANDING! Hawa, Romualdo, Nolie, Hazel and Lukman were wonderful! We have such great family moments thanks to this awesome group of people!! They all deserve big raises for their attention to detail, love of their jobs, and sincere caring for our trip. I can't say enough!

Onboard Activities

Pool was excellent! Water slides were awesome! Our son loved the giant dump bucket! We had a great time hanging out by the pool.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Compared to other cruise lines, the entertainment was not as entertaining. I went to 4 shows while on board.

Children's Programs

Clean and friendly. Our son only went one evening for a couple of hours.

Service and Staff

Let me start by saying this is not my 1st carnival cruise. I have been on carnival many many times as well as royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Our room steward was fine, but not great. Day 1 when he introduced himself, he asked if he needed to do our room twice a day or if he could just clean it once. Seriously!?!?!? I've waited all year for this trip and I'm paying you to do your job(gratiuities), and the 1st thing you ask me is if you can do half your job! I was not impressed. The customer service continued like this from multiple carnival employees. On day 1 as we were unpacking for 4 people, I found that the large under bed drawer was impossible to slide out. As I looked closer I saw that BOTH wheel tracks were missing from the drawers and the wooden drawer had just been forced back into the hole. I contact customer service at around 130pm after we got to our room and explained we need the drawer space and could someone please come fix it. We went up and watched as the ship left port, played at the pool, etc. We can back to get ready for dinner and the drawer was still not fixed. I let our room steward know the drawer was broken as well as the shower was completely stopped up. We were unable to take any showers until that was addressed which they did do(a bit under impressed that our shower was clogged at our arrival). So after dinner when we came back to the room, the drawer was still not fixed. Our clothes had all been unpacked so we needed the drawer. I called again, this time was 930pm. They did send someone, and called right after I did to ask if it had been fixed. This was before maintenance had even arrived. It took till pass 10pm and he said the drawer was still not fixed but at this point we wanted to go to bed. I could at least pull it out a bit better. Not one person addressed it or inquired about it the rest of the trip. You'd think they would have wanted to make sure they had meet their customer's expectations on the balcony room they booked. Also, we order room service each morning at 630am. Same order each day 2x coffees and 1 hot chocolate. About day 4 we only got 2 mugs. I ran out and caught the room service representative and asked for our 3rd mug. She told me I had to call room service. I asked again saying we had ordered 3 hot drinks and I need our 3rd mug. She looked at our order in her hand and said, "yeah I see that, call room service to get another mug" then she turned and walked in the crew only door leaving me standing in the hall way. So I go back into our room and try to call room service. As expected, no answer. It was morning and I'm sure they are very busy. I tried to call for a solid 5 min with no answer. I then called customer service and asked if some one could please run our 3rd mug up to us. The customer service representative said, "you need to call room service for that, but if you are unable to do that I guess I can do it for you." I again explained I had tried for 5 min to call with no answer. She said, "I'll call them" and hung up. Ok, that seemed a bit rude but ok. Meanwhile it's a battle over who gets caffeine or sugar first. Lol About 30 minutes later a knock at the door. Finally they brought our mug. I answer the door and a room steward says, "here is the extra 2 mugs you ordered. Please sign for them." This seems all a bit ridiculous over a pretty simple room service order. At any point one of these Carnival employees could have taken a second to make it right and not cause the animosity I now have. I just dont think the staff understands that without us customers, they would not have a job on a cruise ship. I work in customer service and know that taking a moment to correct a simple issue can save you a ton of unhappiness with your customer base.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin was fine. Size was average for this stateroom. Noise. DO NOT BOOK THIS CABIN IF YOU LIKE TO SLEEP! We had seen some reviews that said their was SOME noise from the deck above. Deck 10 is the pool and buffet. That SOME noise is still unknown. I think it was possibly plate carts. It was a thunderous sound that went on 24 hours a day! I was like traveling in a constant thunderstorm. My 5 year slept through it, but the 3 adults in the room did not. We had some maintenance issues. Out shower was completely clogged at arrival. No one could shower until they arrived to un-stop it. One of the large underfed drawers had NO wheels. It was just shoved into the space. Had to call maintenance 3 times and someone finally came to fix it at 930pm. We have a 5 year old and after all the adventures of the 1st day everyone need to head to bed. But we couldn't. Note: I called customer service at 1:30pm as soon as we arrived to our room day 1.

We took a truck tour that was fabulous! We didn't pre book this, just got the folks right at the pier. Last about 3 hours. Went to the highest point on the island, made a couple stops for pictures and shopping, even got a picture with a donkey named Oprah. Great port!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Bus tour of old and new San Juan. Was great $15 per person and our 5 year old was free! We had a few rain showers so this was great! Got free wifi at Starbucks then did some tours of the forts and caught the free trolly.

Disembarkation

We messed up and didn't get our disembarktion tags early. I reccomend getting those 1st thing the day before disembarkation. Otherwise it was great. Luggage was easily found and customs took about 20 min.
