Review summary

Two years ago we did a cruise on Royal Caribbean... it was OK.  This year we did Carnival... waaaaaay better.  We had a great time!

Lots of things to do one the cruise.  The family never struggle to find something fun.  My only comment was that Key West was a bit disappointing.  The beaches there are not great.  In the Bahamas they are beautiful.  Probably the clearest water and whitest sand I have ever seen.  I will do Carnival over Royal Caribbean ever time.

So true. The only thing that slows me down now is my bad knees but I can hang with the best of them at "chair" dancing!!! Lol

I'm in my 50's as well and I have tried RC, Celebrity, Princess and for the first time will be on Carnival. I believe age never determines your fun level. Your attitude does. I plan on being just as fun and goofy in my 70's as I am now and was at 18. So attitude, attitude, attitude. I've met some 20 somethings that are bigger fuddy duddies. :)

I agree I found that Carnival and Royal Caribbean were very similar. There's a lot I liked about both. I didn't feel that RC shut down anything early, the shows were not geared towards senior citizens. But I think I'd have fun on any cruise line!

My wife and I are 32 and 34 and have cruised both Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I will be cruising Royal Caribbean next Sunday for a 7 day cruise. There really is very very little difference in activities, service and food. My wife and I love both lines and have two more Carnival cruises schedule for February & September of 2017. The daily activity list ( Carnival Fun Times & Royal Caribbean Cruise Compass) for comparable 7 day cruises are both similar and extremely packed with fun activities. Both the Breeze and Liberty Of The Seas have similar pool sizes and amount of hot tubs. Both ships have ice carving, silly belly flop competition or hairy chest competition on the pool deck. Both ships offer great specialty restaurants. Royal Caribbean Liberty Of the Seas has more water slides and activities along with Rock Wall and Ice Skating Rink. The main dining is very very similar between the two. The shows on both ships are both very good. They both offer late night comedy shows, we think they edge goes to Carnival just because my wife and I like the Carnival comedy lounge/club. Both lines offer tons and tons of pictures opportunities during the day and evening. Both offer many of the exact same excursions (you will be at passion island in Cozumel with both cruise ship passengers) Carnivals website offers much much more reviews of the excursions on its website than does Royal Caribbean which is nice. I can't compare any other cruise lines but Carnival and Royal Caribbean. With that said my wife and I have always found it funny when Royal Caribbean cruises act like Carnival is below them and Carnival Cruisers believing that Royal Caribbean ships have rich, old passengers and that a Royal Caribbean ship and it's passengers being elites. Simply not true. At least out of Galveston, that comparison simply isn't true. They are both really similar and offer great fun times and have the same age groups. The only real big difference that we are starting to notice is just the port development. Seems that Carnival has much better developed ports in Cozumel and Roatan Honduras. Bottom line take both or become brand loyal to one for preference but saying things shut down early or one line is for the 70 plus and elites isn't accurate at all. At least not from The Breeze and Liberty Of The Seas out of Galveston.

We did Royal Caribbean as well the first time a few years ago, but we have been on three Carnival cruises, Carnival is the best all around, we love Carnival cruises

Been cruising on Carnival all since 1986. Sailed on most other lines, but I stick to Carnival mostly now! It is definitely the fun ship!

In my 50s as well and enjoy the energy of carnival cruisers. Trying Oasis just to see the ship but look forward to another carnival cruise. 3 more 'till platinum.

I wasn't knocking lol. God willing I'll be there one day too. But I plan on staying and feeling young. Fun ship all the way.

Don't knock us 70's people (72) lol. All of my cruises have been on Carnival since 2004 because my daughter told us that we would have more fun on Carnival. They love RC but goes with us on Carnival because we won't leave our Carnival although my loyalty will be tested next year because they said that if we went with them on RC, they would pay for it. LOL. I don't want to cruise without my Carnival VIP perks.

I wouldn't say snooty. People are people. But it was funny to watch older (age 70ish) folks getting up and walking out of the main theatre on a couple nights. Funny enough, (I'm 50) we thought the shows were geared towards that generation. Lawrence Welk, Jack Benny, etc. I'm open minded to just about any music. But personally, I just think the quality of the shows were very poor. They couldn't even lipsync in sync.

crystalmaldonado    8 years ago

We heard that lot's of folks on RC are snooty...Did any of you have that problem?

rich0219    8 years ago

I'm the same way...much prefer Carnival to RC. To be fair it's been quite awhile since we've cruised RC but I remember feeling like there wasn't a lot to do at night.

twangster    8 years ago

I'm a big carnival fan but to be fair , Breeze is their 2nd newest ship, lots of new things. Which RC ship are you comparing it to?

crusin4gramma    8 years ago

I agree, Carnival is much better.

batch123    8 years ago

Agree. We've done both lines. Food quality mostly the same between the two. But Carnival has much more going on in the Entertainment area. RCI was pretty much dead after 9-10pm. But they have a much older crowd too which probably explains that. We stick with the Fun ship.
