Review summary

The restaurant staff provided great service and were great fun with their dancing, especially, Arthur, Benito, & Iwaya.  Mike, the cruise director, was amazing, energetic. However, our balcony room 2306 was a bad experience.  The staff kept it clean but all during the night, there were loud booms that kept waking us up as well as loud noises from above our room that sounded like large furniture being drug across the floor.

Also, when I chose the room online, there was no indication that the balcony was a "cove" balcony and that it was on the 2nd level and that it was below the rescue boats.  When I brought this to the attention of the guest services staff they really didn't seem to care.

Lastly, the drink service in the casino was horrible.  While playing TX holdem we would sometimes have to go find a waiter to order drinks.  It also doesn't make sense that the TX Hold 'em is the only activity that doesn't earn casino points.

I have not have this type of experience on other cruise lines and will have trouble ever using Carnival again.

Don't take taxi drivers recommendation of which beach to go to. Ours was dirty, crowded and the facilities were not good.

I was right below the dining room on my last cruise and never heard a sound.

Cabin 2306 is right below the dining room. That is probably the furniture dragging and loud bangs you were hearing. I never book rooms above or below the dining room, Lido Deck or Main Show Lounge. The deck map on this app (and Carnival website) will show you exactly where cabins are located so you can pick the perfect cabin. Sorry you had a bad experience.

3 weeks!!!! We are heavy sleepers too, so I highly doubt a few bangs will be a problem, lol!

When are you cruising Cindy?

I'm booked for 2306 it looks like we are below the dining room...

You can't blame Carnival because YOU picked a Cove balcony. Personally, I prefer the coves. Shaded and more private.

I'm in 2318 Cove on my upcoming cruise. What ship were you on?

echrista86    8 years ago

We were in room 2316 a few weeks ago. Booked it because it was a cove. We love it because you're so much closer to the water. And you are more secluded.

When you chose it online it does say cove balcony and includes a description. I always search my room on cruiselinerooms.com to ensure it isn't a horrible room. Sorry you had a bad experience, but if it was because of your room, then it was mostly your own fault for not doing your research.

One word. Wow!!!

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

It's very clear on Carnivals website that 2nd deck is only Cove balconies. Don't blame Carnival for your inability to read/ research.

When you book online it DOES tell you what kind of balcony. Unless you just got a balcony guarantee room. Agree...didn't do your homework. so sorry..

Thanks for your balanced review.

I understand that the cove balcony is less than you were expecting on many levels, however knowing now what you didn't before, (such as verifying cabin locations on deck plans, researching on various forums and websites), would you consider Carnival again?

melbry    8 years ago

Was this your first cruise experience? I know you've said it wasn't, but how could you not know the room was on the second floor? I hold you responsible for not doing your research prior to the cruise. So many sites you could've used, including Carnival, to understand what type of room you purchased.

Thanks for a balanced review of the good and bad aspects of the cruise.  As had been pointed out a ship cabin is like real estate,  Location,  Location,  Location.  In St. Kitts we had a great taxi driver that gave us a 3 hour island tour for $ 20.00 each.  The Ship Mate phone app has suggestions by prior travelers on where is good to go to see or to eat.  The app also non ship excursions.

I hope with a bit more research your next cruise will be all you want it to be.

There are all kinds of maps on carnivals site an even on this app that show you where a room is. Plus very easy to check a forum or two to find out about your specific room number and unless you booked through a travel agent of which I don't know about. You have to pick what kind of balcony you want. Cove or aft or just plain balcony. It says it right there on the site as your selecting room

I'm sorry your trip wasn't great. what are casino points

2306. The 2 indicates it's on the second deck

When booking a cruise, it is a good idea to have the deck plans for the ship available. You can get the deck plans from many resources online especially on the cruise lines website itself. When looking at the deck plans, look at the deck above you and below you as well as what is around you on your cabin deck. Your cabin (2306) was DIRECTLY below the galley & the Sapphire Dining Room which would explain all the noises. A good agent should have also brought this to your attention if they are expecting any kind of return business from you. We sailed on the Carnival Dream (sister ship to the Breeze) and had a cove balcony and we loved it because it was so close to the water and very private. Next time, have your deck plans when booking before settling on a cabin you may not like.
