Review summary

Although we were not thrilled with the La Romana port, the other ports were awesome.  Unless you take an excursion, there is really nothing at La Romana unless you want to go to the city for shopping which is very stressful due to the aggressive vendors. The prices are overpriced on the trinkets and you can find almost identical items at the other ports for much less. Despite that, the trip overall was fantastic and the food was very good. The service was excellent and i would recommend my family to go on this Carnival cruise (as long as i could go too). :)

We think that we were able to use the balcony a little bit more because of it being shaded more during the day. One of the drawbacks was the noise. You could hear a lot more clunking and they chose to clean the decks above us while we were eating breakfast on the balcony almost every morning at 8:30am.

I am a frequent cruiser and La Romana to me is one of the BEST ports.

Many get off the ship and are attracted by the $5.00 round trip to downtown but for only $7.00 R/T you can tak an air-conditioned bus to a place called Altos De Chavon which is on the exclusive Casa de Campo resort property.  The ride is about 15 minutes each way and takes you to an old style European/ Spanish community with beautiful views of the Chavon River, golf course, Spanish church, art community, Roman amphitheater, restaurants, museums and shops. It is a wonderful place to spend 3 hours or more.  Google Altos de Chavon and you will see the very high reviews.  I have been there 5 times.  Dont forget to bring your camera for unforgettable pictures.

it's been a couple of years so I don't remember exactkt, but I remember thinking the price wasn't bad...maybe like $50 pp? it included use of facilities, drinks, and lunch (buffet). They had beautiful pools and greeted us with a glass of champagne. We liked it so much that we recommended it to some friends of ours who were looking for a honeymoon spot, and they spent a week there and loved it. The only drawback was the taxi fare, but we found a group from the ship who wanted to go there, and we shared the taxi, which cut it down a lot since it was a flat fee-- back then I think it was $90 for the van, but it could hold 8 people

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price of Dreams La Romana all inclusive package?

If you are ever back in La Romana, I can recommend taking a taxi to the all-inclusive resort called Dreams La Romana. We got day passes there, and it was fantastic. It's about a 25-minute ride but worth it. Glad you enjoyed the cruise!
