Caribbean Princess

7 Night Eastern Caribbean Islander (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: May 14, 2022

Ship: Caribbean Princess

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Caribbean Princess is starting to show her age but don't let that fool you. She is still a graceful lady with plenty to offer her guest.

Embarkation

Went very well, there was one 10 - 15 minute hang up inside the terminal when everyone was stopped in place. Not sure what the cause was but suspect that the gangway got backed up. Other than that it was smooth. 1 more thing there was still no pictures being taken inside the Terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet was self serve and the food choices was outstanding. We are several times in the MDR and each meal was really good. Try the Beef Wellington. Pizza at Slices was good but did miss not having an Alfredo's onboard. Crown grill continues to be the best steak at sea, the Surf & Turf was the best.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Plenty to do each day however if you want to reserve time in the sanctuary you must get there as soon as you get onboard. We got onboard around noon and went straight to the sanctuary and all.the good locations was already booked for the entire cruise.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Was glad to see 2 Broadway style shows in the theater. The ships singers were good and very entertaining. Was unable to stay up for any of the late night entertainment.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff remains professional, friendly and eager to assist, we did feel bad for them as the ships are still operating with a limited staff so waiting in line a few times was understandable.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Although the Caribbean Princess is a great ship her age was starting to show. Being a sailor in the navy for over 20 years I look at ships differently than most. I noticed rust when it could have been cleaned up, dirty windows and restrooms showing their age. The outrigger pool was a.nice place as it was limited to adults only but not very many seats and yes we still have chair hogs. Other than that the ship was beautiful.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Beds are outstanding the only thing bad about the beds is that you don't want to get out of them. Remember that on this class of ship there is no overhang on the balcony. The room was clean but in the bathroom I seen some stained grout and loose fixtures. Toilets was a challenge as they would not always flush when you flushed them. Most times they flushed ok but on many occasions there was a time delay from just a couple of minutes to over a half hour. We finally let our room stewart know about it and they were able to fix it, unfortunately that was on the last day.

Ship tip

Venues to eat are limited compared to the newer Royal Class ships. Still no Champagne Waterfall for formal night.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

First time there and went into Old Town and really enjoyed it. Plenty of shopping and places to eat the local cuisine.

Grand Turk Island

Again never been here and you can have a great time a never leave the port. Miles and miles of white sandy beaches. Will definitely go back.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Took an excursion to Ocean Word and enjoyed it very much. Make sure to get you pictures made with the Sea Lions

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I think it took 10 minutes from stateroom to taxi. The debarkation is great.
