Review summary

Our first cruise was with a small, older ship on Carnival. We did not do our research and suffered the consequences. I picked what seemed to be one of the best of Princess’s ships. The food was fine - nothing spectacular unless you upcharge for the restaraunts. I didn’t feel like this was a ship I would take my kids on and I probably wouldn’t choose this ship again for just my husband and me. There didn’t seem to much tailored to kids at all. There were plenty of food places and entertainment throughout the day and the evening. There were a few pools. But nothing that just really makes me want to go back on that specific ship. The workers are fantastic - there’s always someone taking away used dishes and asking if there’s anything they can help with. I did enjoy most of our ports and the excursions we chose.

Food and Dining

I’m not walking away talking about the food. It was fine, just not anything special as far the food bars and timed dining. We did try the Crown Grill one night and it was outstanding.

Coffee & Cones

Coming from carnival where it was 24/hr self-serve, they seem a bit stingy with their ice cream on Princess. They serve you and quite a small amount - so plan on asking for extra on the onset or go back for more! They also close down when the other food bars do.

Absolutely outstanding.

Onboard Activities

I was a little disappointed. I’d be even more so had I brought our kids along. The only thing they offer for kids is the one teen area. There are a few pools on board. They play a fairly new movie every evening. There are a couple clubs with music and dancing. They had karaoke and the voice try outs. Throughout the day they had a string duet that would play, and a couple bands, singers, intrumantilists that would play.

Ship tip

I wouldn’t bring my kids on this cruise. There are many other ships out there that provide more kid tailored entertainment.

This one was my favorite. We went on the stingray encounter. This was by far the most beautiful beach. We stopped by Hell (completely unimpressed - I have no interest in going back), we stopped at the “rum factory” which resembled more of a gas station convenient store. We were able to hold sea turtles and then we were shipped out to play with stingrays. If you can manage to find an excursion that just offers the turtles and the stingrays I would choose that one!

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I didn’t like this one at all. We did a beach day and shared the area with Carnival - it was a small, overcrowded area. They give your tickets and you still have to wait in a forever long line to get other passes for snorkeling and your beach clam and then you have to go hunt down someone to help you reserve a clam.

Belize City, Belize

We did the Lamanai excursion here. It was about a mile walk in and then you can choose whether you want to climb to the top of the ruin. I think any of my kids 3 and up could do this excursion.

Cozumel, Mexico

We did the Chichen Itza tour here. It was an awesome experience! Unfortunately, most of the day is spent on a long bus ride to get there. I also think a child could do this one, but have some entertainment available for the long ride.

We are with you grandmomsdc. We have sailed with Princess 18 times and they are our cruise line of choice. Been on the Caribbean Princess twice with 2 more booked on this very ship. Never had a bad time on a Princess cruise. JNRichardson if you didn't notice Princess is an older demographic cruiseline. Therefore you won't find a lot of kid or children things to do. Now little cousin who is now either 13 to 14 has been going on Princess cruises since she was 7 so it's like anything else, it's what you make of your cruise.

My husband and I sailed around the British Isles on her and found her to be a great ship. We loved the production shows. The food was great. The excursions were outstanding. We have sailed (or have future bookings for) 12 times with Princess. She is our cruise line of choice.
