My family had a great time. It was our first cruise with our three children. The food was good with lots of variety. The pool areas were very nice and we enjoyed the "Movies Under the Stars", particularly late at night with the night-owl teenagers. Like the coziness of Explorers Lounge very much.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Have very mixed feelings about "Anytime Dining" option. Like the flexibility but felt we lost the opportunity to establish a rapport with a wait staff group. We had several that I thought were very good but also has one or two that were very average. I don't know how much the tipping policy fit into this issue as well. Overall the food quality and presentation were very good. The italian eatery was very good and a great experience. The Sterling Steakhouse was good. We had a very roudy group at an adjoining table that made the evening unpleasant. The food was OK but nothing special.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Loved the Movies Under the Stars. Theater entertainment was good.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Didn't feel like we got the personal attention from our cabin steward and wait staff as we've received on other cruises. Generally everyone was friendly but with the exception of the wait staff in the Italian restaurant, I didn't feel anyone else ever approached "going above and beyond".
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was clean and first class condition for the most part.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
WE had a problen with our balcony door. It was reported to the cabin steward. He followed up with us in 2 days and it hadn't been fixed. He said he would report it again and this time it was fixed almost immediately. Otherwise the stateroom was great. We enjoyed the large clothes hanging area and the balcony. We'll never do a cruise without a balcony again. I would have loved to be able to tour different staterooms/suites while on ship. The virtual tours online don't really capture the available space the same as being able to lay your eyes on them.
I've been to Jamaica on several occasions but not recently. Always amazed at the continued poverty and lack of infrastucture on such a beautiful island. We rode horses in the ocean and that was fun. The people running the excursion were great. With the tendering process, not enough time to do anything other than the excursion. Because of the traffic jam immediately around the tendering area, we were afraid we were going to miss the last tender so we walked back the last 15 minutes to the pier. Along the walk, my sons were asked twice by people on the road if they wanted some "hash". In general more time is needed ashore.
I really didn't know how to rate this. We did a little shopping and snorkeled on our own at a very nice beach that we accessed by taxi. We've been here 4-5 times and it is currently so torn up from the huricanes. It is sad to see in this condition. The shallow reef is damaged from the storms that is Belize was undamaged I would have preferred snorkeling there. This was the only stop that the amount of time dedicated to stopping was close to sufficient.
Snorkeled and swam with the stingrays. GREAT. This was my second time doing this and am ready to go again. Snorkeling was very good. Once again more time is needed ashore particularly when you're tendering.
