From what I understand, you put a bid in for an upgrade but are not guaranteed to get the cabin you want. I prefer to pay select price and choose the cabin I want.

I believe this is a new thing. You bid for a type of room better than the grade you're in but it could be anywhere on the ship. I also prefer to buy select price because I can guarantee a decent night's sleep. At the front and back, it sways a lot and Engine noise is an issue. I book midship maybe halfway up. Not near a crew service lift either. I wouldn't recommend anyone try upgrade bidding.
