First Cruise by skidster3

This was my first cruise and I must say Royal Caribbean has made a cruiser out of me!  I was amazed at the food, the service, the cleanliness, and the activities on this boat.  I am looking into booking my next cruise with them through now!

First time on Royal Carribean by tamarabrown

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was a very nice ship.  We just had bad weather and couldn't stop at one of the ports.  Couldn't see one of the shows due to a malfunction had a variety show take it's place which was what we had seen on the ship the whole time.  Food in My Time Dining was very good.  Rock climbing wall was a no go because of the wind most of the time.  First time I have ever been on R. C. had always heard it was supposed to be top notch.  I think the weather had alot to do with it.  Would try again most definately.

Pleasant and relaxing by diannegleeson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We never expect a lot from a 4 day cruise but this one was a pleasant surprise!

The ship is lovely with  ocean views from just about everywhere, even the elevators.

Best use of the Centrum area we have seen. They have all types of good live music, from classical to country,  going on there during the day and it was a lovely spot to sit and have a drink, dance, or just listen. The music drifts pleasantly up through to the upper decks of the centrum atrium.

Because it is a 2000 ish passenger ship, it doesn't feel crowded and we could always find a place at one of the pools to relax in the sun ( or shade) .  The crew was very friendly and accommodating from the captian right down to the washroom attendant. Our stateroom attendant, John, was the "invisible man"  - and that is what suits us best! Our  room was perfectly made up every day, fresh  ice in the bucket etc, like magic.

If you like to meet new people, try MY TIME dining and ask to be seated with others. "Greta" did a great job of getting us a reservation daily at whatever time we preferred. The food was not gourmet but quite acceptable in both the main dining room and the Windjammer and we met a lot of interesting people.

Singers and dancers were not as good as on the longer cruises but they were pleasantly entertaining and the headliners were very good.

My only suggestions would be that the main pool area could be better kept.  There were strategically placed towel bins and carts for used drink glasses but there were just too many towels and used drink glasses lying around. Sometimes  it was hard to tell if folks were using a lounge or not. Perhaps we were just travelling with a lot os sloppy folks?

Would take this cruise again in a heartbeat.

The good, the bad, no ugly by jimjanest

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The ship was beauitful.  Our stateroom was the Superior Balcony and was overall pretty nice.  The bad was the shower was tiny and water got all over the floor every time you showered.  The photo showed a coffee pot but ours didn't have one.  Our food and service in the dining room was overall excellent but the breakfast buffet and lunch buffets were mediocre but we liked their set up the several stations easy to get to.  We were also pleased with the entertainment on the ship.  We would take this cruise again.  I gave it a 7 out of 10.  We live in Florida and the Tampa port is convenient and very easy in and out.

great getaway by Rembthis

Nice long weekend getaway.  Easy to get to the port and quick process on returning. Going under the bridge is a different experience.  Great entertainment.  Enjoyed the "Thriller" dance from the cruise director and willing fellow cruisers.

First time cruise. by alhoule

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Some things were great, such as service and over all condition of the ship.  We wanted to see all the shows, which we enjoyed, but conflicted with dinning room times.  Ended up eating much earlier then we would have liked.Impressed that we were able to watch the NCAA Final Four games, very important to us.

While there was plenty of food, found most of it to be average.  Enjoyed the little salad bar next to the swiming pools.  Most days had a salad and cookies for lunch.  Used the fittness room, good experience.

My husband and I really enjoyed this cruise. The service was excellent. For the first time we tried the Chef's Table and I would highly recommend. The Chef's Table dining experiance was my favorite part of the cruise, the food, wine and service was excellent. We  would definitly take this cruise again.Love

Not the same! by dlvanocker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

After having cruised in the 90's, and then 10 times since, I've unhappily noticed a decline in the fine service that used to be offered. I can't say the service was bad, but, mostly indifferent. I also miss the "classy" dress attire in the main dining room. I know it is asked that people follow a nice dress code, but many do not. It takes away the "special feelings" of the past. That being said, the cruise line can't be faulted for that. The shows were good. The food was good in the dining room, but not spectacular. I really enjoyed the "station" service and food in the buffet. I loved the fact that the sea was visible from so many locations!

Great family memories by lieuwenv

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We booked this cruise for some much needed time with our adult kids and their spouses (no grandkids!), and that was exactly what we got.  We had a great time just being together: laughing, visiting, eating, relaxing.  We have cruised a number of times before, and our kids have all cruised once or twice, but their spouses hadn't ever cruised so we all came with different expectaions.

We booked this cruise mostly because of the timing of it (we needed it during one of the kid's spring break) and also for the port (our daughter lives in the area).  The length of the cruise was exactly what we wanted for a 1st cruise for some of them

The ship has recently been renovated and it was very nice.  The centrum was very dramatic, and when they did the aerial show on the 1st day, we were very impressed!  We loved the fact that the only place smoking was allowed was in the casino (which we didn't go to) and only in a very limited area on one side of the pool deck.  We didn't have to walk through smoke filled bars or lounges to get to another.  We loved hanging out in the Colony Club, which had a very rich decor along with a great view.  The solarium pool was beautiful, although it was quite busy during the day hours.  We sometimes hung out there late at night (which was where the only late night food was available...other than room service).  The staterooms were nice, nothing special but nice, with lots of storage space.  The bathroom had a bit of a musty odor.  We booked a balcony room for us...I knew there was a "partially obstructed view" but we were VERY disappointed with just how obstructed it was.  We were on the 7th level, and the metal roofs that cover the life boats were basicly an extention of our very small balcony, coming right off of the other side of our railing and extending out about 8 feet.  We were able to see the ocean when we looked past that, but it was dissapointing, and I feel these rooms should definitely be discounted compared to other balcony rooms, along with making sure people understand what "partially obstructed" means.  Also, 2 of our kids rooms were on the 2nd level, they were booked as "ocean view"... we booked (not directly through Royal Caribbean, but through ) 6 months prior to the cruise and were disappointed that they were put on that level, and were unable to change it.  Even though they were considered ocean view, the rooms on that floor only have a SMALL port hole.  Again, that should be made clear, and I feel those rooms should be priced differently.  Over all, the ship was very clean, and the staterooms where kept up nicely.  We realized the 1st night that some things had been "cut back" since the last time we cruise...there was no "turn down service" (no mints on the pillow :) ) and the much anticipated towel animals only showed up twice in the 5 nights.....not a real big deal but it is kind of fun every night to anticipate!

The shows were good...we were very impressed with the Royal Caribbean dancers and singers, and enjoyed the jugler/commedian.  There were a number of activities on board that you could do if you wish...I felt there were less on this than on other cruises we've been on, but we still enjoyed some of them.  We were disappointed in the cruise director of this ship...we felt compared to other cruises that he wasn't as personable or wasn't as involved with activities/announcements throughout the ship.

The food was good.  We ate in the Windjammer for all of our breakfasts and lunches.  We loved sitting out on the tables overlooking the water.  The quality of food in the Windjammer was pretty good (not exceptional, but good), and they did change it up some every day.  As crazy as this sounds, what we all enjoyed the most was the most AMAZING  french fries!! :)   The main dining room was very beautiful, and the food there was quite good (most of the time).  We had a bit of trouble here the first night (also we were told possibly because we did not book directly through Royal Carribean) because, although we were assured that all 8 of us would be at a table together, we were at 3 different tables.  They couldn't guarantee they could fix it the 1st night, so we went to the Choppes Grille that night (which was AMAZING and ruined us for the rest of the cruise :) ) but did get us together at a table for the rest of the time (along with another family of 6).  As the nights went along, we enjoyed getting to know the wait staff for our table and they us, and we appreciated the service and attention to our specific requests!  We often were able to sample a couple of different entrees!  I highly recommend doing a specific seating assignement instead of a "your time dining" for that reason...the interaction with your wait staff is worth it!  As for Choppes Grille, we can't say enough about it!  We LOVED not only the massive amounts of excellent food, but the personalized service.  It was a great experience for all of us!   One thing that was dissapointing about food was that there never a gala midnight buffet.  Again, I realize they probably have cut back on things to make cruises more affordable, but we so enjoyed not only seeing the beautiful creations made from food and (also ice sculptures), but also tasting them on previous cruises, and it would have been great to have that at least one night.

All in all it was a great experience and we have some wonderful memories to share with our kids!

Not as good as other cruises by pugskt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Timing of shows was poor. On two nights there was only one show and it started at 7:45, the same time as our early dining ended so when we got to the theatre there were no seats available. The food was not as good as previous cruises. There were too many children who filled the pool and hot tubs every day all day. Not much music up by the pool. No ice carving or late night snacks up by the pool. Not enough time in Key West, as we couldn't go ashore until after noon.

Great Time! by tvickers5

We had a great time for a last minute planned cruise.  This was our first Royal carb cruise, but it won't be our last!  We usually cruise with another family-friendly line and happened to schedule this one due to the date.  I always thought Royal Carb was more for adults but our family was pleasantly surprised on how much we loved it!

Very family friendly, wonderful amenities, caring and fast staff, fun stuff for our 8yr old and 14 yr old.  We came home looking to book another Royal Carb cruise asap for this summer!

VERY POOR SELECTION ON FOOD MENU.  STEAK IS SMALL AND TOUGH.  NO PAPER, PE, SHAMPOO OR ROBES IN BALCONY STATEROOM. ENTERTAINMENT AWFUL.  ONLY ONE SHOW ON TWO NIGHTS.  MISSED PART OF SHOW BECAUSE DINNER WAS NOT FINISHED IN TIME.  I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SAILED FIVE TIMES ON RCI.  NEVER LIKE THIS.

Caribbean cruise by ksolden

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was very clean and orderly and the crew were helpful and courteous. For the most part, the stewards as well as the waiters did not hassle us to order more drinks, food, or other items. That was not the case on other cruise lines that we have been on.

Beautiful ship and great service by HappyTwosome

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Brilliance of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was elegant, the food was excellent, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.  We wish it was easier to get a table for two in the main My Time dining room.  We never knew the schedule for the evening entertainment until the night before.  By then there were no reservations available for tables during prime time.  We were told that most tables were reserved before the ship ever left port.  Well, that kind of defeats the purpose of My Time dining.

We liked the Solarium pool, which was quiet and adult-oriented, as opposed to the outdoor pool.  Although the ship was filled to capacity, we always seemed to be able to find a seat at the pool or in the buffet area.
