Review summary

We always have fun on Royal sea days, and the excursions (through Royal and organized on our own) were memorable.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Tampa was hands-down the easiest embarkation we've experienced yet.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room wasn't quite as good as pre-pandemic, but still way better than we could do at home.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We like the simple things - good piano bar, goofy games, fun shows.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We like the simple things - good piano bar, funny comedian(s), fun shows.

Children's Programs

No kids on this trip

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward wasn't as over-the-top amazing as pre-pandemic, but was fine. Rest of staff was as amazing as always.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Clean and well put-together as far as we could see.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great! Typical for an ocean-view cabin in our experience.

Ship tip

There's a nifty feature at the main elevators - click the up/down button by the map of the ship and it automatically selects ALL the elevator banks!

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Did the Mayan ruins + chocolate excursion through Royal. Had a blast! Definitely want to go back to Cozumel as a stand-alone trip some time.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Didn't see much of the port - went straight to the Turtle Center. Bought tix online ahead of time and grabbed a cab (much cheaper than official excursion and our schedule was our own). Swam/snorkeled with turtles, it was AMAZING!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Did an excursion to Chacchoben ruins through Native experience. It was FANTASTIC. Long walk to get to the Native kiosk was unexpected, but after that we had an awe-inspiring day, including authentic food at Seven Colors Lagoon.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The experience itself was quick and easy. Disembarkation day was nuts because we were fogged out of port until like 5pm, so everyone missed flights and it was a mad scramble at the airport. But that wasn't Royal's fault and they kept the food flowing all day and paid toward cost of fare changes.
