Review summary

Wonderful family cruise for the price. Ship is smaller, but has everything we love about RC. Kids had a great time. Negatives: don’t get sick (bring meds), don’t get RC airport shuttle (Lyft is faster/cheaper), can get cramped at activities so get to them early

Embarkation

Fast, efficient

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffets were good as expected and specialty restaurants didn’t disappoint anyone in our group who ate there. Main dining room food was great, but service was slow at times which made dinner with children tough (specifically waiting for dessert course)

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We did a bit of everything. Great time when available. Poor weather led to many pool and sporting activity cancellations and/or reschedules. Didn’t offer all activities expected and many seemed rushed. This is not to knock RC, more like bad luck with weather.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Good overall. All venues seemed cramped for game shows, dance parties, dancing for participants. However, Centrum did provide a great view for onlookers. Some issues occurred with staffing for events and some overlap that prevented you from getting to all of the activities we wanted. Staff wasn’t always friendly. Stage shows were all fantastic. Oh yeah... and some idiot broke the kareoke machine the first night dancing around like an fool to Devil Went Down to Georgia and knocked over the computer. Oh wait... that was me :(. Got the nickname “The Kareoke Killer” out of it. Not my finest moment. Worst thing is, this is my first time NOT drinking on a cruise (due to having the kids with us). Don’t recommend.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
The nursery was fantastic for our not quite 2-year-old allowing my wife and I to enjoy dinner and evening activities (6-midnight). Afternoon playtimes and the children’s pool were highlights for my son. My 11-year-old daughter enjoyed the older kids club with her cousins, but weather issues led to a lot of cancellation of activities and a lack of kids on the cruise overall limited participation. That being said, the kids loved what was offered and actually say that the freedom to come and go to the kids club and/or explore the ship as they chose was a highlight. Only issue we had was that my 3 year old nephew had an accident in the 3 year old group and was kicked out. They are serious about “full potty trained”. They cut his kids club wrist band off and tossed it. My nephew was very sad/ashamed and his parents wanted the wrist band as a keepsake. He just played around the ship and had a great time anyways.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Awesome. Totally on point, friendly, and stellar.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Definitely clean and kept up. Venues seemed small for activities as mentioned in the entertainment section.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Typical cabin as expected on a cruise ship. Bunk beds come down from the ceiling and closet and drawer space made unpacking/stowing easy. Highly recommend door organizer for bathroom door for extra pocket storage. Pack and plays for toddler lacked a legit mattress pad, but we used the couch cushions and pillow under the sheet (bring your own sheet) which worked perfectly.

Ship tip

Don’t get sick! My wife got sick on the cruise and ended up in a Tampa hospital for 2 days before she could fly home. It’s taken her 7-10 days to recover. Doctor on ship is $195 to consult. We brought our own meds which was our saving grace. Plan accordingly.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

No issues. Easy stays and transports. Airport is very easy to maneuver. DO NOT GET AIRPORT SHUTTLE FROM RC. LYFT IS CHEAPER AND FASTER. We stood in the cold for more than an hour waiting for the purchased shuttle (wife didn’t even use due to her transport to the hospital).

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
We docked outside of and not at Georgetown (as advertised) which is awful as no shops and long, expensive ($6-8/person each way) bus rides are necessary to get to town or beaches. Beach is overpacked and you are constantly asked to move or buy something by locals. Once you find a spot to settle (buy a chair/umbrella for ~$20) it’s pretty nice to lounge though. Generally overpriced. Had better beach days in Southern Carribean. Snorkeling is fun on tours, sea turtles and stingrays were enjoyed by family members too.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Bad weather hurt the stop as 75% of excursions were cancelled. We swam with dolphins which was great (highly recommended), but had to settle with a less inclusive excursion vs our initial sign up. Lunch buffet was a let down and all you could drink bar was great, but nowhere to go and nothing to look at so we didn’t stick around long.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Outside of my wife’s illness and poorly setup transport to airport, everything was smooth and efficient getting off and going through customs.
