Review summary

This was our first cruise on Royal Caribbean. It is a shame it started out on the negative side, with poor training and poor information from American Airlines and Royal Caribbean. From there, we ended up going down hill once we got on the ship. There were a lot of good things, but overall I will consider some of the other cruise lines before booking on Royal Caribbean or with American Airlines again

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was very quick. We arrived very early and things were just getting under way so line were short and moving quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room was very nice and food was good. The buffet had many choices, however some of the choices just did not seem to hold up to buffet style service. Many times the food was cold. This was the first cruise that I was on that did not have fresh hot pizza or the buffet open after the shows. It was difficult to get a hot cup of coffee after 10:00 PM. The Park café was open, but the coffee was cold and food choices very limited.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There was a fair choice of things to do on sea day, however I felt the staff running them were not well trained. They gave the appearance that they would much rather be somewhere else. Most of these people had no enthusiam or interest in what they were doing.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainment in the theater was exceptional. Each entertainer had brought something different to add to the two week cruise. Each entertained with enthusiam and passion.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff in the dining areas and housekeeping were all gracious, friendly and made you feel that they were enjoying this cruise as much as the guests.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship was a great size and very easy to get around. I especially liked the day of the week displayed on the elevator floors. We consistantly saw staff cleaning all public spaces daily.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
I purchased this cabin based on the American Airlines rep and two separate calls into customer service for Royal Caribbean. All assured me that we would have a sleeper sofa and not a pullman style bed. Since the guest is disabled and unable to crawl up the ladder to the bed. This WAS not the case. So for 2 weeks she had to sleep on a setee, which caused issues for her. Also, we could not get cold water in out bathroom, lights would flicker on/off and then shut off when in the bathroom, and one light was completely dead abouve the little setee. Also had a watch disappear from our cabin!

Ship tip

Wait until she comes out of drydock. Too many thinks were breaking or not working. By the end of the cruise both soft serve ice cream machines were broke. The cold water dispenser in the Park Cafe was not working from day one. Some entrances and exits did not open/close. Many chairs in the Windjammer, Colony Club and English Pub were coming apart.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
We arrived 4 days prior to departure and had a wonderful time walking around the city and visiting the sites.

Cartagena, Spain

4 out of 5
At this port we choose to walk around on our own and view the city.

Malaga, Spain

4 out of 5
At this port we choose to walk around on our own and view the city.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
We choose a private jeep tour with Up Mountain and went off roading and up to the highest peak on the island. We also enjoyed a great lunch in a local restaurant in a small town on the island.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

2 out of 5
The port was not very welcoming, due to the fact we docked in the commercial port. We did a shore excursion with Royal Caribbean, the Scenic and Shopping tour. Iam an avid quilter and was disappointed at Caribelle Batik. The demonstration was very poor. Our driver was very knowledgable and gave a very detailed history of the island

Tampa, Florida Did not visit port

Been there several times and had to catch a flight

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
very slow going and seemed a bit chaotic at times.
