Review summary

Poor weather meant that this holiday did not meet our expectations.  This was our first cruise so we have nothing to judge it by, but whilst the facilities on the Azura are excellent, as is the food, the entertainment was very hit and miss.  We appreciate that you cannot please all the people all the time but too often it seemed to be aimed at the lowest common denominator... too loud, too inane, so intrusive if you were trying to relax.  Perhaps we were the wrong people for this type of cruise.  We won't be back.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: we went in November but your survey doesn't show this option.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Self service restaurant were inefficiently run, too often there was a shortage of glassware, cups, cutlery, drink dispensers empty. Waiter service restaurants excellent.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Some artistes were very good but too often they were poor and there seemed to be a lack of variety. The entertainments team tried hard but there were times when we felt we were at Butlins on a boat.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Elmera, our cabin maid was excellent. The staff generally were all very good. A special shout out too, for Sam and Gemma, Whitewall Galleries.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
This was a 'family' cabin but still quite small. The higher bunk beds which whilst they were flush against the walls, still restricted access to the bed. Restricted view from the window but we expected that.

Ship tip

Go for the Peninsular/Meridian freedom dining options. Avoid the self service but give Sindhu and Epicurean Fine Dining restaurants a try, relatively expensive but worth a visit. If you want a more personal, relaxed cruise, you should have choosen a smaller ship.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

If the weather is unsettled, stay on the coast. The rain forests live up to there name.

Lovely island. If you go on a trip, we recommend the Barbados in Focus tour. Excellent guide, articulate and professional and very knowledgeable.

Although, this ship is a family ship and is also to eantertain the kids so maybe family cruises aren't the best for your preferances

Thank you for posting your review. We enjoy Barbados as well. Don't be discouraged about cruising...  try a different cruise line next time.
