Review summary

We met at Hotel Continental in Budapest, drop off luggage around 11AM then went to the local bazar for great shopping. Back at hotel to wait with others going on cruise( got to talk and meet some then that became friendly group of 12 during cruise) boarded about 4PM. Tip: keep small carry on with you as you may get your room before your luggage gets to you.  Meals were very good. They serve  coffee and cake at 3 to 4. Excursions were good but lots of walking on cobble stone streets so bring good walking shoes. It was very cold for us in May, some days in 40's and 50's so plan to layer up and have waterproof jacket for top layer. Affinty has a small library and sitting room at back of ship which is great for playing cards or talking story with others on cruise. Machine for make your own coffee, lattes, hot chocolate and tea was wonderful. On board guest zither demonstration and German singing group were excellent. Don't miss the mechanical music box museum tour it was fantastic to see.

Ship tip

Only about 128 people on ship so it's easy to meet people. Open seating at meals , so just ask if you can join a table, easy to do on this cruise ship.

This was our only River cruise so far, but I have talked with friends and we compared cruise opinions. We really enjoyed the small group of 128 passengers and got to know almost all on board. This is easy as you go on day excursions with various groups of 25 or so people. Also easy to mingle at dinner, on sun deckhand in lounges. We are getting ready for Princess cruise to Alaska and Denali Land Tour now. After experiencing River cruise we think the large ships may not be our cup of tea any more but we'll see.

Have been on any other river cruise?  If so, how does this compare?
