Review summary

Anthem is an amazing modern ship. There is a lot to do and the ports are amazing. Royal Caribbean does everything better than Carnival. I have sailed carnival over 10 times and this is my second Royal Cruise. You can not compare the ships, service, and activities.

Embarkation

Super easy. Dropped Luggage off, parked in the garage, walked to check in. Entire process took 10 minutes.

Awesome! But the coffee card if you like Latte or iced coffee. For $31 you get a punch card for 15 coffees my wife got 11 iced Lattes and saved a ton. Workers are fast and friendly. Great Starbucks coffee.

Best speciality Resturant on the ship. Great Italian food. So many options and they don’t rush you in this family style Resturant. Try as much of anything as you like.

Best place to eat if you are germ-o-phobic. My wife was afraid of Coronavirus scare a few weeks ago so we basically skipped all buffets. This is the perfect place to eat. All food is prepared by workers and there are no serve yourself things. Workers hand you everything.

Entertainment

Went to all the shows. Spectra Cabaret was interesting. The Gift was abstract and strange. Didn’t care for it. Rock the Ages was cliche. You Pretty much could get into these shows without reservations. Comedians were funny but I was a bit surprised how they only have the opening day act and Spectra Cabaret in 270 when they spent $37 million on it. Live music was great by the orchestra.

Large ship but it’s really easy to get around.

Surprisingly large with a large balcony. This was just a basic balcony room. Great bed and plenty of space for storage of clothing. Bathroom is better than normal cruise ship.

Ship tip

Eat in Jamie’s Italian and Chops. They are amazing. I purchased the 3 meal dining package for $99. Also, I booked with a travel agent and got 1 free dinner and 1 free lunch.

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

Blue Lagoon Island is a great excursion. I did the beach day. The weather was perfect and the water is all different colors of blue and green. Encountered Dolphins there before. Everything is perfect about this place. Take a nice 30 minute boat ride to the island.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

I went to Coco Cay in the Summer of 2018, it was perfect. But..... in Feb 2020 it is completely different and even better. Royal Caribbean really did something special. We went to Chill Island and the pool. Coco Cay is amazing.

Disembarkation

So fast. Got bags and walked 50 yards and was at the pickup for the parking garage. I grabbed my car drove to pickup where my wife was standing with the bags. From the time I scanned my card on the ship and walked off to the time I left the parking garage was about 10 minutes. With facial recognition it made customs easy.

Bayonne Cruise Parking is less expensive and has a shuttle to the port. IIRC $16 per day before shuttle driver tip.

So glad you enjoyed, we really enjoyed our cruise on Anthem also. We also enjoyed eating at Jamie’s and Chops. Had the best dessert ay Jamie’s, Lemon Meringue Cheesecake it was so delicious.
